Both statements point to the exact inference, i.e. weight of fish, Bob received. Then the answer is between option D or E. But since this would not be marked a "hard" question just for both statements to be insufficient together. So, taking a guess and going with option D here?! Note - Never guess answers like this! :dontknow: waiting for a solution soon ...

Remainder of a product of n numbers when divided by x will be remainder of the product of the remainders of those n numbers.

i.e,
remainder(n1*n2*n3) = remainder(remainder(n1)*remainder(n2)*remainder(n3))

This gives option D as answer

Yes, the answer should be option D. 10 hours 40 minutes minus 8 hours = 2 hours 40 minutes

Did this briefly in my head, so I am not sure if it’s correct:

1) Should be sufficient. You case where x=2, which works and case where x=0, however in this case LHS would negative which is not possible.

2) not sufficient. Case where x=0 (which is valid since now both sides are equal to 3), and case where x=2

one of the most common DS traps in gmat is using the propoerty of abs(x)>=0

took a while!

This was my approach:
10000000000-(ab)
Now, using subtraction property we get that the sum of digits is (under the assumption that b!=0):
9*8+(9-a)+(10-b)
we need it to be equal to 84, so
9*8+(9-a)+(10-b)=84
(9-a)+(10-b)=12
now we can just have fun plugging in numbers
a=1,b=6
a=2,b=5
a=4,b=3
a=5,b=2
a=6,b=1
a=7,b=0 -> this is left out, because we have assumed b not equal to 0

The case of b=0:
we have 9*9+(10-a)=84
(10-a)=3
a=7,b=0

total of 6 values of Z.

Choice D.

Although in this case, the last two cases ended up conciding, I would be prudent and take the two assumptions for the value of b.
