That sounds like a smart plan to me, guys! I'll recommend this strategy to friends who have little business experience. I guess the question is if they can land the internship in the first place, with minimal experience?

Hey guys, did you get interviews? When/how did the interview go?

Seems like the school-specific recruiter will contact you if you're selected.

You then undergo 2 behavioral interviews, 1 with a manager and 1 with a partner.

Interviews were very warm/friendly and lasted about 30 minutes each. Ample time to ask questions at the end.

Sounds like it was fairly simple. Wish I had the opportunity, but I guess it may have been fairly competitive. I'm curious to see what the numbers on how many people applied and how many were accepted.

Well, have fun at DCIP! Let us know how it goes! :)

anyone from 2015/2014 can share their experiences on pre-mba summer camps/internships. Would be great for us who are matriculating in 2016 to know how did you get it.
Specifically for the set camps by Deloitte/P&G/JP Morgan/McKinsey, what worked in your favour?

Thanks for sharing in advance.

Are you looking to be paid? If not, I imagine many companies would be open to giving you a shot. Especially smaller, local companies. Are you looking to get paid, more difficult, especially at larger companies. Many big companies don't have the flexibility to offer nontraditional internships.

Thanks for the note back Mike. I am open to not being paid but was wondering if companies would have open roles for Strategy and Opps consulting or IB (MBB/BOA/JP/etc)?
May be we can chat offline, it would be great if you could provide some guidance.

Thanks,

Happy to chat offline...but are you asking if you can get a pre MBA internship at a consulting firm or investment bank? I think that is going to be really, really tough if not impossible. All of those firms are setup to bring on traditional interns. Remember, don't always go after the shiny thing. You could find a really unique opportunity at a small local firm that will actually be very helpful making the transition.

Did anyone who applied to McKinsey Emerging Scholars Program write anything in the Comments/Additional Information box on the application? I'm not sure if they're asking for a short essay like the Wharton optional question or if it should be used to explain any gaps in work experience, GPA, etc.

I believe the comments section is very similar to the optional essay that you have in the MBA applications. Only use it if there is anything not already covered but will definitely add to your profile.

Bumping this up. Will a pre-MBA internship in PE (Morgan Stanley) help someone with a social impact consulting background from a boutique firm standout in MBA consulting recruiting? (MBB primarily) or will it end up confusing the recruiters?

Would love your thoughts. Thanks!!

Having a strong brand-name is very helpful on the résumé. Of course if you do it an internship with an unknown PE company, that is not helpful. However having Morgan Stanley or something along those lines, is great if you don’t have brand names. It is good even if you do I guess…

PS. MBB recruiting is super competitive. Only 1-2% supposedly make it through the process and you may need to have a plan B or C. It would also be helpful to have Morgan’s name on the resume.
