Gender: Male
GPA: 3.36 ( weak grades in sophomore semester with heavy math classes because of family problems. Will address in essays)
Undergrad major: psychology/ criminology
School: Ncsu
GMAT: 740 (q:47 v:45 IR:8 awa:5)
Work experience (6 year)
U.S. army officer 4 years infantry 2 years military Intel in particular signal Intel. Very good reviews as well as being promoted at every possible time. Can go into more detail in PM.
Community Service-
1. Active with homes for vets
2: group lead in Partners in education. A group that brings military personnel to under privledged schools to mentor at risk students.
Entry date: Fall 2016
Target schools: duke (early decision) Unc, Virginia, Texas austin, Washington

Thanks for the post and happy new year! I get to kick this post off by telling you I've got good news - and I'm really thrilled about that! So...that said...I think you're aiming a bit low!
Before I talk about that, let me address your goals. Consulting is a brand game. The higher you go, the better it is. But your chances to get into a M/B/B firm at #8 are better than #4 because you'll shine in that pond, make sense? But that doesn't mean you shouldn't go to #4 anyway, because the brand is what matters. So the higher you go, the better. Now to specializations > be careful talking about IT consulting. That's not where you want to be. That's SAP implementations and IT infrastructure strategy. No, you want to be in strategy > because then you can make a hop to a boutique firm much more easily.
Unless you have a specific reason you're not applying to the top 10, then I'm all ears, but I think you should! Columbia, Tuck, and maybe even throw your name into the H/B/S/W hat.

Thank you for your response. It really clarifies a lot for me. I am about a year and a half from applying but will be seeking some serious help when the time comes as I will be very busy with the army.
I am not avoiding the top schools. I honestly just felt that my gpa would kill me and the duke was already my stretch. As for the consulting comment. You have really clarified a lot with that to and I hope a lot of people get to see that response.
