Alex, can you just give me a quick rundown of my chances? Any help you give is greatly appreciated.

Age 25 (will be 26 at matric)
GMAT 730 (49/39--both 80%+)
UG GPA--3.13 from top 40 public univ (extenuating circumstance-death in the family)
UG Major--Marketing
Work Experience-
Commercial Banking for 1 year
Finance/Accounting at a Defense Contractor for 3+ years w/promotion
Extra Currics--
Team in Training--Running Club to train and raise money for the leukemia and lymphoma society. Hold a small leadership position
Terrapin Club--Alumni Booster Club. I'm a member of the Young Alumni Subcommittee.
Bowling Team--We won our league last summer (this probably doesn't matter)
Active member of the youth group at my church. I'm a 'leader/counselor' of sorts.
Post MBA Goals--Strategy Consulting
I don't have a set list of schools yet, but I'm considering the following--
Kellogg
Ross
Darden
Fuqua
Tuck
Booth
Wharton

I think you're choosing a good range of schools -- sounds like you know where you stand, so it's really a matter of just focusing on the applications. Your GPA is what it is, even with the circumstances it's going to be an issue (since other folks have faced comparable hardships and still managed to maintain their grades), so there's nothing you can do about it. And your GMAT is strong anyhow, so that's what they will care more about. Everything else is solid.
Wharton, Kellogg, Booth -- stretches, but enough of a shot that they're worth at least applying
Ross, Darden, Fuqua, Tuck -- sweet spots, where you have a reasonable shot of getting in
For safeties, you'll have to look outside the top 16, so whether that's worth it to you is a personal decision.
