Hi!
I'm not seeing the connection between IB, MC, VC and sports management per se - but as you mention they are unstructured questions. A lot of big sports organizations (teams and also media companies) look for MBAs. I don't think these organizations necessarily recruit at schools very aggressively - it's more up to the candidate to reach out to them/apply off campus. This is because they just don't hire the volume of MBAs each year that IB/MC do and coming to campus may not be worth their time. I don't think you need to be in NYC per se to get a job in sports management post-MBA.
In terms of your GMAT - I understand how endless the entire studying/sitting process can become. Have you taken it more than once? As it stands now, schools that have an average GMAT of around 650 in the US are going to be top #25 and lower in the rankings (I use US News - it is the most accurate ranking).
Best,
Leah
Hi Leah,
Thanks for your response.
So, my goal is to work in sports (marketing, operations, etc.). The reason I mentioned IB and MC was because I've seen a few profiles of people working for the NBA League Office who have a consulting background, some don't but they're Stanford/HBS/Columbia/etc alumni. I mentioned investment banking because investment bankers were involved in the sale of the Clippers back in 2014, so it would be cool to work in IB and aim to get exposure to the sports industry in some capacity...although though it's probably very rare.
This was my first sitting for the GMAT, i had probably studied around 80-100 hours for the test. I had practice tests of 650, 680 and 700 across various platforms. I would write it again, but it would mean putting life on hold for atleast another month which I am not sure is worth for 30 more points...I don't think it will make me that much desirable for schools, will it?
Could you name some of the schools I should look into? I haven't found a good site that filters schools by ranking/GMAT/etc.
