710 gmat (78 percentile math; 89th verbal; 92nd overall; 6.0 AWA)
~3.5 college GPA at an Ivy league program as a social sciences major
Graduated college in June 2006; 3 years work experience in trading at a boutique derivatives MMing firm; laid off in May 2009
-College extracurrics: Newspaper sports editor, freshmen crew
-post college: volunteer at a nonprofit and college alumni interviewer since 9/2009, taking a Real Estate finance class at Baruch this winter
Good evening, I am debating putting together some R2 Apps and I was wondering what you thought were my chances for the following schools or how I could improve my profile?
Any input would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

To add to my profile, I am caucasian from the northeast. I am getting a bit worried because I got dinged from 3 R1 schools (Utexas, duke, columbia) so am trying to figure out the best strategy for R2.

Sorry for the delay in responding; it's a busy time of year. Your profile, at least as much of it as you gave, doesn't seem especially distinctinve, and your employment situation, while by no means a deal-breaker, doesn't help matters. Many other finance people are in your boat, so that competition factor may explain your round 1 issues.
Kellogg, NYU, Yale, UVA, Michigan, Tuck, and Cornell may be out of range or reaches for you. Your odds at Georgetown, UNC, Emory, and CMU are respectable (you are competitive). Your odds at WashU and Vandy are favorable.
It's too late to improve your profile for this year, but you are young enough to still be in the running next year, so I recommend finding a full-time position and an extracurricular commitment that shows leadership and impact.
