Thank you very much for your reply Robbie.

I hope you can answer a few more questions.

-I know that it is hard to say without actually having a gmat score now and I do understand that its a battle if you get under the 600s. But do you think its a battle I could win with my profile excluding the gmat part?

- So what you are saying is if I get the 640+ I could apply to those schools( Yale, Duke, cornell) in R2 but if not ..I should try to take the gmat again, get a higher score and apply in R3. But from what I have read and heard is that R3 is impossible for International students to get accepted unless you have like a stellar profile. no?

-As for the re-applying Im just worried that you have to show a lot of improvements and new achievements to even be considered ..even if I do get a 700 by the time R1 comes along again next year.

-How many times can you actually take the Gmat to still be considered for the top schools. I mean lets say you take the gmat 4 times ..the first 3 times were low scores but the 4th time you get a 700+ .. will adcom think too many times or ?

-Lastly does it really matter whether you go to the school to visit them or not... it is kind of hard to take a trip like that overseas and if you dont go.. would it then be best to go when you get an interview invite to improve you chances or it does not make a difference?

Thank you for your time and very grateful for your advice.

Best,
M

R3 isn't impossible for international candidates, but it is hard, especially with processing visas. Also, there are fewer spots open in R3 and the schools are looking to fine-tune their classes.

For reapplying, the biggest thing you could point to as to how you strengthened your candidacy would be retaking the GMAT and scoring much higher.

Generally speaking, you can take the GMAT 3-4 times without raising eyebrows. Much beyond that and the AdComs begin to wonder.

Finally, the schools do like you to visit, and it does show enthusiasm on your part. However, they do recognize that it's not always possible, especially for international students. There are other ways that you can use, including information sessions, contacting local alum, etc.

Good luck!
