Hi Paul,
If you wouldn't mind assessing my chances I would appreciate it!
Profile:
-26 year old Caucasian USA Male
-720 GMAT (49 Q 40V 8IR 5AWA) on 1st attempt
-3.62 GPA in Chemical Engineering from a top 100 Big Ten School (In major and math GPA closer to 3.8/9)
- In College I was involved with AICHE and numerous intramural sports and other gym activities
Work Experience:
4+ years by matriculation. I have worked for two fortune 500 companies, one a chemical manufacturer and the other a consumer goods manufacturer.
-At the chemical manufacturer I was a production engineer working on a process making a chemical that is made nowhere else in the world. I was in charge of troubleshooting process upsets, finding improvement opportunities, project managing small capital projects, setting up experiments with R&D to find new breakthroughs with the molecule.
-I led a weekly meeting comprised of hourly operators as well as management that focused on pulling improvement ideas from those closest to the process. We would prioritize needs and then I would plan and implement top ideas.
-Led startup of a capital expansion that increased production by 33%
-Increased quality metric by 6% y/y (Doesn't sound like much but it was a big deal! haha)
-At consumer goods company I am in charge of all procedures and formulas used to produce over 1000 finished products. I have implemented standardized procedures that have saved 2 FTE by reducing labor needs. To get more into the business side, I got in with our global productivity team and am leading a global packaging change to reduce costs/lead time/ and revamp the brand of that product. I also have done 6 sigma green belt certification through a local university and lead continuous improvement events in our facility (teaching a class, organizing groups of people to focus on an improvement effort, etc.)
Extra-Curriculars: Mostly sports either through work or leagues with friends. Have done some volunteering Habitat for humanity, pro-bono tutoring. Set up some social events at my old company for the new hires to get to know eachother better. Lacking in this area. Hoping it wont be a big drag.
I am applying only to Booth and Kellogg. I live in Chicago and would like to stay in the area.
Post MBA goals: Short term to go into product management (Likely with a consumer goods company) so that I can be involved from idea through to manufacturing and sales/marketing. I have the manufacturing and engineering experience, and the MBA will fill my gaps in marketing/finance/general business skills.
Thanks!!!
