Sayantan,

In general, the top schools get higher than average GMATs from Indian applicants. CMU is no different in that regard than the others in your middle layer. However, you are more competitive at these school than at your top tier, but your GMAT could be an issue at all.

Regarding Kellogg and MIT, either program would be a fantastic option for you. You asked me to choose 2/3 and I chose. I chose MIT over Kellogg, because it might be a better fit for you, but it would be really hard for me to argue that case with any conviction. If you prefer Kellogg, apply to Kellogg.

Hey I was looking at MIT and what i found out was that they are looking for higher GMAT avg scores as compared to that of Kellogg and also have a lower enrollment rate as compared to Kellogg.

Hey and finally i may sound over ambitious with my profile or GMAT score...but what about Wharton. I have researched a bit...about 25% of the admits have less than 3 yrs of work ex there.....the only thing i do have is that my work ex is bit different from the other indian applicant pool. I am thinking of applying there in R2 till then i would be ready with my essays and thus would have a better chance to look at things. So should i apply at Wharton ....do i have any chance at all? Just the only consolation i do have is that my acads are very good and if they can compensate for my low GMAT.

I am not optimistic about your chances at Wharton, just like I am not optimistic about your chances at any of your Tier 1 school, and Wharton is definitely Tier 1, but given your grades, it is also not impossible because your college grades are outstanding. But don't count on your Tier 1 schools.

In an earlier post you referred to MIT, Kellogg, and Ross as "top layer" and I referred to them as tier one. Anyway, that's what I meant.

Best,
Linda
