GMAT: 730 ( Q48, V 44)
Nationality: First Generation Mexican American
Age: 26
Undergraduate Major: Chemistry
GPA : 3.0 at a Top 5 University
Work Experience: Fortune 500 CPG Company
Market Research - Currently 1 year
Associate Brand Researcher
Product Development - 4 years
1 year as laboratory technician (contractor)
2 years as Research Scientist I
1 year as Research Scientist II
Managed 2 interns
Extracurricular: Several leadership positions in corporate diversity programs
Post MBA Goal: Consulting or Marketing as a career path to General Management
Target Schools: HBS, GSB, Kelllogg, Haas, Ross and Stern via The Consortium
Questions:
What are my chances at getting admitted and/or scholarships to these schools based on my profile?
Are there any other schools you would recommend?
Is my low GPA a deal-breaker for these school?
Should I retake the GMAT with to improve my quant score?

Thanks for reaching out. Let me get right to your questions:
1a. Chances of getting admitted are solid, with proper execution on the essays. Your career path is fairly natural but will need to be rock solid. You have a lot of work to do thematically. Research work doesn't always lend itself to teamwork and leadership and (skipping ahead here) your GPA demands that you highlight maturity throughout. You will need to stake out the proper position in each and every essay you submit.
1b. Academic scholarships are often determined largely or solely by the GMAT, so you are right in the hunt. 730 will be close. Probably gets you some nice $ at several schools, but you might get shut out at others. Your demo information might qualify you for some funding as well.
2b. The biggest recommendation I would make would be to give Booth a long look. You have nailed a lot of the schools I would want to see on a marketing-focused list. Duke is also worth considering, but Booth is the one I would encourage you to examine. Emerging marketing focus, flexible curriculum, great school.
3. Your low GPA might be a deal breaker at HBS and GSB, where the average is extremely high. At HBS in particular, GPA tends to carry more weight because they admit a younger class, so college remains more relevant - less water under the bridge. At the other schools though, I don't see it as being prohibitive. But, as mentioned above, you will need to really work to convey maturity in your app. Low GPA doesn't call your intellect into question, it calls your focus and discipline into question. Gotta show that things clicked into place and that you hit another gear in the workforce.
4. I would only retake the GMAT for scholarship purposes, but even then, probably not. 730 is terrific and your attention is likely better served in other areas, such as developing killer essays.
