Chethan:
thank you for reaching out to me and I appreciate the information you provided. However, you're missing a critical piece -- your short and long-term career goals.
Let's take a step back. MBA programs -- at a high-level -- are simply the bridge taking you from where you are today to your ultimate career goals. What you have given me right now is only a snapshot into your profile. I have one line item that details your current work experience. I also see that you have performed a little bit of math and told me that you currently have 18 months of work experience and by July, which is approximately 6 months from now, you will have two years of work experience. While I do get that, I need to understand the nature of your work. Please read up on the other posts here in the "Ask Paul Lanzillotti" thread. What I want you to understand is that it's not as simple as just asking a few questions or providing some nascent data. You have to learn how to the homework, before you ask questions, and that involves reading other posts here. From this you will see what types of information you need to provide and asking for a profile evaluation and allowing me to provide a very robust one. Trust me, I do want to provide a very robust evaluation of your profile I believe the length of this answer is an indication of that.
After you understand the types of questions you should be asking, as you ask me to evaluate your profile, then you can begin to formulate what your own career goals may be. Remember, an MBA program is necessary to achieve these goals. That is, do not conjure up goals that do not require an MBA. The admissions committee, and anyone you talk to involved in a business school program, will immediately dismiss you as not being serious. They will immediately label you as a person who does not do their homework.
If you really want a quick and dirty answer -- something that is more binary -- then the philosophy I espoused above, I suggest looking to see where your GPA and GMAT align with the average GPA and GMAT for a target business school. Right now looks like you will be competitive at a 15 to 25 MBA program.
Respectfully,
Paul Lanzillotti
