Hi Alex,
I plan to apply for the Sept 2012 MBA and I want to know your opinion regarding my profile. To be honest, I don't have a unique profile, in fact mine is pretty normal and as much as I want to work it out, I don't have the luxury of time as I am already in my 30's. But despite the age matter, I refuse to make it as an obstacle to achieve my goals. I know myself and I am certain that I need a MBA to further my career goals. My target schools are Wharton, Chicago Booth, NYU, Kellogg, HBS. Here is my profile:
Bio: turning 31 at the end of year, Female, Filipino
GMAT: still reviewing, plans to take end of Aug, target is 700+
Undergrad: BS in Accountancy in the Philippines (okay student, but our program is really rigorous, only 10% graduates at the end of the year)
Profession: CPA (Philippines)
Work Experience:
Philippines: Accountant - 4 years, with 3 years in a Large Manufacturing Firm listed in the Singapore Stock Exchange, promoted to Senior Accountant after 2 years.
Dubai, UAE: Finance Specialist – Almost 2 years in a Japanese Multinational Digital Imaging Company
Finance Specialist – Current job, almost 2 years in a Multinational Software Company (Largest in the World)
Extra Curricular Activities: Philippine Institute of CPA, member (I know this does not count)
Goals:
Short term – Management Consulting
Long Term – Corporate position doing Financial Market Stategy/Development or CFO, considering entrepreneurship (i love the internet, i have a thing for design, rock/indie music, lifestyle) and leading/doing sustainable development projects (Micro Finance) or teaming up with a non profit org for development in the rural areas of Mindanao, where I was born and raised, in the Philippines.
I really have nothing to offer except my maturity, determination and 8 years of work experience where half of that is in a multi cultural environment. I actually planned for a safer route - get a Masters in Accounting at UIUC, take the CPA Board, hopefully land a managerial position and then eventually get an EMBA. But I knew from the start, I wanted a MBA and whole 2 year experience. I think I'll learn a lot and will be more equipped for my future goals.
I also did not include any European B-Schools because I think the global opportunity is not that great compared the US MBA. And I would like to work in the US eventually to experience it as most of my colleagues/bosses in Dubai are Europeans. It would be interesting to experience working with another culture. I think this is also viable for my future goals.
So I guess that's it. I turned out to be a big dreamer and a risk taker after always taking the safe side. And with that, I would like to know your opinion regarding my profile.
Thanks in advance.
Irene
