Hi Alex
Female/26/Chinese born Australian
GMAT: 690 (confident that I can get higher next try, freaked out during the quant first go)
Business undergrad, not sure about GPA as we use a different system but I'd say "slightly above average". I worked full-time throughout most of university so this affected my GPA somewhat.
Spent past four years working for an oil major, primarily in marketing, started off in brand & comms and eventually ended up in marketing strategy. Also managed the acquisition of some competitor business overseas back in 2008, tough project, especially for someone who had zero experience in the area. Pulled it off though, on- budget and ahead of schedule.
Currently volunteering in Cambodia, helping a local organisation develop their marketing strategy as well as writing a white paper on behalf of a disability NGO to present to the Prime Minister. I am only here for three months.
I love marketing but I am tired of being pigeon-holed as a marketer. I want a broader understanding of business and I think that consulting is the best way to get this. Down the track I would like to return to the NGO world, there is a real lack of business acumen in the NGO community which is pretty alarming, considering the size of some of their budgets.
The only school I'm thinking of right now is Kellogg, but would appreciate your thoughts on schools which are stretch/realistic for me. Thanks.
