Are you looking at other full time programs, or are you considering executive MBAs? Also some important things are what schools you went to, what your GPA was, and what bank you are working it, including your title and responsibility.

That said, depending on those you could have a nice chance at those schools, of course with LBS being a bit harder. Also, considering your age this will probably be held against you a little, so your story will be very important here.

Once you provide this additional information I mentioned above, I could give some more guidance.

Hi There

Since you are aiming for top schools then a score above 700 is desirable. However GMAT alone won’t determine your chances of admission; beyond the academics will also help you in determining your candidature and your work experience plays a vital role as well. In general most of the Indian applicants are from engineering background with a good 4-5 years of work experience.

Although it is not just the work experience that counts but also what you did there like-what were your achievements, what initiative you took, what changes you drove in your workplace etc. So you need to ensure that in 7 years of work experience you have demonstrated the skills business schools are looking for. This could still put in a strong set of essays for you. Start thinking what makes you unique and what’s that ‘hook’ that will be key to your application.

Your background seems quite unique so make sure you demonstrate that well in your application. Make sure you follow the ‘show rather than tell’ principle so that the admissions committee could really understand your strengths and differentiating factors.” Hence the quality of your work, your academics and beyond academics will play an important role in determining your candidature.

31/M/India.

Education:
Bachelors in Architecture
Masters in geography

WE: 7+ Years spanning different industries in the US, Canada, UK, India. Construction, logistics and supply chain, financial services, and technology. The last 4 years has been primarily spent within a reputable bank working in strategy and analytics, governance and most recently risk management with a good track record of performance / promotions.

GMAT / GRE - Yet to take.

Languages: English, Spanish and Hindi.

I also have some startup experience, although not successful, I've learned a lot along the way. Further, I am fairly involved in a number of extra curricular activities.

Assuming, I manage to get a decent score, which is a big if at the moment, I was wondering if my profile stands a chance...schools that i have on my mind are insead, lbs, said.

Any thoughts / feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

You have significant experience spanning geographies and various industries. You should be able to prepare a set of essays with examples to support your points. Before doing that, you should be able to understand why you need a MBA, what do you intend to do after the MBA, what are your expectations from the MBA?

However, keeping in mind the deadlines of the schools you have mentioned are going to start from September this year for the intakes next year, you may be strained for time. Also because you have to give your GMAT. So your preparation will be for the GMAT exams and for the application package which includes the essays, CV and recommendations.

So, you will have to decide whether you want to apply for 2012 intake or 2013 intake. Also, regarding the selection of schools - hopefully you have done a check on whether they are the right schools for you. You might consider applying to a few more schools to make sure you fulfill your MBA dreams.

Neha Singh
