Hello,
I need a profile evaluation, please.
Indian Male, 27 years
B.Sc Hospitality, IHM - Lucknow - 60.2%
XII - 60.4%
X - 82%
I was accepted into Taj Groups' "Hotel Operations Management Trainee Programme"through on campus interview. I was then absorbed in the organisation at an Assistant Managers Position, got promoted to Restaurant Managers Position in 2 years time and was then chosen by corporate learning and development department to be sent to Sri Lanka to lead the team there. Then i got a chance to move to NZ on a work visa.
6 years Managerial and Supervisory Restaurant Management work experience across India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand with Taj hotels and Accor .
Planning to prepare and write GMAT in 3-4 months time. i am aiming at around 650 - 675.
I am an avid traveler and have interests in photography. I am also a registered regular blood donor.
Do i need to to improve on my extracurricular to better my chances?
What schools are within a realistic approach??

Hi Mayank,
You have a decent profile, good international experience and average academics. As per your profile I would suggest you to target few business schools which are within your reach like - University of Illinois (Urbana Champaign),Michigan State University (Broad), Purdue University (Krannert),Pennsylvania State University (Smeal),Boston College (Carroll) and University of British Columbia - Sauder. There are few other business schools as well which you may apply.
Also get in touch with the alumnus of B-School which you are targeting to know more about the B-School admission procedure.
You would need to cleverly prepare yourself for questions like your rationale behind applying for a specific B school, so on and so forth.

Do you think being a non-engineer is a disadvantage whilst applying to intl. B schools? The history/ stats make me feel so, sometimes. I have been through the class profiles of quite a few random B Schools (Top 100 Intl.). Also, mine is a 3 year degree, which not many intl. B schools accept, hence i have limited choices.
I know someone who had a similar background as me, had 700 gmat and managed to get into ISB, but i feel hers' was a one off case. She did travel abroad and taught english to some kids for 3 months, perhaps that helped.
I also feel that my achievements may not sound as profound as they do in case of engineering, finance Grads.
Do you suggest that i wait for a year or so, get in to some thing substantial like volunteering for an NGO, some social initiative (give back to the society) etc, to strengthen my chances?
Is ISB out of reach for me?
