Hi,
I just wrote GMAT and got a 710 score (Q49, V38). I missed out on answering the last question in Verbal so I guess there was some penalty. Moreover, it was not one of my best Verbal performance. My profile:-
- Senior Software Engineer at a leading product based American MNC(Market Cap $50B+) since the last 6 years
- B.E. with First Class With Distinction (highest grades awarded by the university) - 70.3%
- Have applied for a patent at the US Patents Office : related to the work I am doing currently
- Core product developer and responsible for the wholly owning the product in India
- SCJP (95%) and SCWCD(98%) certifications [Java developer certifications]
- Have won many inter-college competitions in Karting, Dramatics, Dance, Poetry
- Won a competition for directing and participating a short film which is now being used by the current company for marketing its business
- My father has his own business so I have also spent some of my spare time in the business
I can get good recommendations from managers or directors of the company.
Currently, I am targeting top 20 US schools and ISB, Hyderabad.
Can you please evaluate my profile and also advice if I should give GMAT again to try and get a better score?

Your GMAT should be fine--probably better at this point to spend your time working on your application. You have a good profile with what appears to be progressively responsible experience and leadership, although software programming and the like often can be perceived as a fairly independent job, so make sure you emphasize the teamwork angle of what you do. You have a good advantage in the area of innovation with your patent and also with the nature of what you do in general, which is going to be perceived as creative. The film thing also reinforces the creativity angle, and would likely also be a great example of teamwork, since it takes a village so to speak, to make a film. The creativity thing is more difficult for most applicants to demonstrate, so consider yourself fortunate. I think you should have a shot at top 20--let us know if we can help you package your story in the best possibly way.
