Hey Jain,
Thanks for posting and happy to give you my two cents on your profile. Be aware, some of this might not be EXACTLY what you want to hear. But I think that's why you came to us - we shoot straight.
Academically, you're in solid company. A 740 with a 8.0 (probably first, first + distinction if your school does that?) from a good school (yes, top ranked, but not HIGHEST ranked), you're on solid footing. Nothing more really needs to be said here.
Professionally, a few things. You're not in IT - woohoo! But you're young. You're also not in a prestige industry (PE, Banking, tier 1 consulting) so that doesn't help you. You're also in an industry that values tenure. Impact and score correlates strongly with years of experience. That said, you have some interesting work you're involved in and that'll be great to pull stories from. But on an aggregate basis, you're young and you don't have the significant impact we'd like to see. To put your experience in perspective, you have less than most bankers and consultants we work with.
Involvement wise, you're light across the board. Sure, some stuff in college. But nothing much since then and even your hobbies seem superficial in nature. If you were playing an instrument, for example, we'd love to see you in a band or as a leader of a music group, etc. Something beyond simply liking to play.
You haven't mentioned goals at all but I assume, given your background, they'll be equally concerning. That's an assumption - and it might be an incorrect one. But it's an assumption I'm making on experience.
Ok - to schools. Top 10 will be a stretch. Is it worth a shot? Eh, you're the best judge of that. If it'll keep you up at night, then go for it. But your chances are low. Really low. And mostly it's your work exp / years that're keeping you out. So if you're set on starting Fall 2016, then you need to target lower. Your stretch programs would be in the 8 - 14 range. Aligned and safety below. But if you want to wait, that might change things if you can push yourself into hyper drive.
Hope that helps!
