If I understand your timeline correctly, you won't be eligible for 2+2 since you will have work experience once you apply next year.

but my understanding is that the 2+2 program is for students who will be gaining work ex in the next two years. Since I will be competing my course this June,I am planning to join an ngo for a year and then work at Tata Consultancy for another year. Do won't that be counted as 2 years?

No--you are only eligible to apply for HBS 2+2 while you are still in college. Once you graduate, you are no longer eligible. Seniors in College apply each year and if accepted, go work for two years before beginning the program. You would be better off looking into early career MBA programs, which are beginning to pop up at top schools such as Wharton and Chicago for example. Early career MBA programs are specifically designed for college grads with little to no work experience (average 1-2 years). You can explore these programs on the web to see if they have appeal.

It is good to start thinking about this early. Generally speaking for top 20 schools you need to show a track record of accomplishments at work and/or outside. This means taking on additional roles and responsibilities outsider of what is expected. Develop a plan for where you want to go - your career goals, and build the skillset to get there. Take advantage of opportunities that come up at work and outside. Get international exposure. There is no one single way to guarantee a successful application.

Consider taking the GMAT as it might show more focus on b school v GRE.

Apologies for jumping on your thread, but I'm also considering applying to Bschool next year. Do schools look down on applicants who submit the GRE?? I had heard that submitting the GRE would be a fine replacement for the GMAT...

I was considering the MIM degrees of Europe and as well as US , however I was thinking that an MBA though costlier is a better degree. I mean an MBA from Wharton and the likes will be better than an MIM degree from HEC Paris or ESADE right.

Reg GRE, there is the risk that schools might view you as not being focused. Eg the case of an engineer who wants to transfer to business could be viewed as hedging by perhaps applying to engineering grad school and MBA. GMAT shows greater focus. Ultimately, submit the strongest score, but in most cases it ends up being ballpark the same (in which case GMAT is best).
