Question

Hello Experts,

Please evaluate my profile and also help me answer some of the queries below. Any feedback is welcome.

1) Profile Evaluation request:
Education: 
Bachelor in Technology from PESIT, India (Computer Science)
CGPA – 5.74/10
Academic Achievements - Nothing to boast about

Work Experience:
4 years
2 years with ITC Infotech as Quality Analyst
1.5 years with a Financial Consultancy firm

GMAT and Application: 640 (Q44 V33)

Target schools:
My current list 
University of Arizona (Eller)
Boston College
Boston University
Michigan State University (Broad)
University of Illinois—Urbana-Champaign

I want to understand which schools may be good fit for an applicant with my background/work exp/aspirations? What are the schools I can consider within reach?
Also, apart from MBA, I am also considering to apply for MS in Finance. Can you please suggest universities for this programme too.

Hi Varnush,
You seem to be at or close to the GMAT median for the schools you're applying to, but if your academic performance was mediocre, you'll want to use any optional essay space to demonstrate, generally through examples from any work you do with international clients or vendors, that you're highly competent in business English. They will assume that your quant skills are strong enough. Without a statement of your post-MBA goals, it's hard to identify which schools are right for you in terms of your aspirations, so be sure that you have not only a goal industry in mind, but also have an idea of which companies you'd like to work for post-MBA, so that you can identify which top MBA programs will be most effective at building your ties to that industry.

I am not an expert in MS/Finance programs, so I leave that response to others.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your reply!

I am planning to re-take GMAT in mid of July. Do you think getting a score around 680 will better my chances in these schools or should I skip GMAT and concentrate on the applications as I do not want to miss 1st Deadline?

My post MBA goal is get placed in an Investment Bank in USA. This is the reason I am also applying in MS Finance.
Also, in your view which of these courses will improve my chances to achieve my goal?

Hi Varun,
A stronger GMAT would definitely improve your chances for top MBA programs, but you don't need to score much above the median for these schools, so be sure you check the student profiles of each program before you stress yourself out too much on the GMAT.
