Bala,
It depends on the school, but you should target 700 or within 20 points. If you are interested in GMAT tutoring send me a note and we can set you up with some targeted help to get you there! [email protected]

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing your information. I agree with Scott on giving the GMAT another shot. 650 is one milestone you can look at, and as Scott mentioned 700+ can put you in the conversation at some of the top executive MBA programs. Another key aspect of your candidacy will be your achievements and leadership in your role as well as indicators for "high potential" within your organization. Surely, this forum isn't the best arena to share this information, but I thought it would be worth mentioning so you can think about the things you want to emphasize in your application. Let us know if you'd like to chat about your approach! Best of luck!

Hi Krishna,

You have a strong profile. Your work experience and leadership qualities are very good. But your academics are on average side and GMAT Score is on a lower side. I would definitely recommend you to retake your GMAT, to improve your chances to top global business schools.

You may also gauge your chances of getting admission to top business school by trying this amazing tool https://bit.ly/1C9o2Md

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Krishna,

It may be difficult getting into a Top 25 school given your academic background and GMAT score. One thing to keep in mind is not only are you competing against the entire pool of applicants, but especially those with your particular background to help a school diversify its class base. And while your experience as a Finance Controller may be significant as well as your current work in a Big 4, it is difficult to assess the strength of your professional background right now.

Furthermore, where are you looking to work for your follow-on career? While you can be functionally specific, if you have any regional preferences, this may impact your decision as to what Top 25 schools you want to actually get accepted in--some programs have stronger regional placement than others, which should impact your school selection decision. For instance, if you apply to McCombs but have no interest in oil or tech or working in the southern United States, you might not want to apply there for their rank alone.

It is certainly in your best interest to retake the GMAT to give yourself the best chance. There is nothing you can do about your undergrad GPA, so you need to take control of those elements that you can such as your GMAT, resume, and letters of recommendation.

We invite you to check out our blog on Poets & Quants (https://poetsandquants.com/2015/11/05/how-wysegyde-is-hacking-the-price-of-admissions-consulting/), and if you have any questions or would like an initial consultation, please contact us through our website (https://www.wysegyde.com) or by email directly ([email protected]). The initial consultation is free and our services are only $59/hour after that. And since you may be looking to apply in the January round, it's important for you to know that our consultants will still be meeting clients' needs with those timelines for the foreseeable future, with services ranging from strategic counseling and school selection to essay review and interview prep.

We look forward to speaking with you soon. And in any case, good luck!

Hi,

I would like to get some insights on my profile.

Location: India

GMAT: 620 Q44 V31

GPA: 3.0 (graduated with commerce) major in Commerce and accounting. Topped the college in Class XII and Graduation.

I am a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Work Experience: 11 years in US captive unit in India as Finance Controller for size of 1,600 employees.

Background: Worked as Finance controller for about 10 years with very solid leadership experience. I grew very fast in my career and am currently working in one of the Big 4s taking of care of Global Shared Services finance activities. As part of my work, I work with many country leaders in EMEA, Asia & US. Strong performer and quick in adopting change and handling critical issues in terms of finding practical solutions.

Post MBA Goal: To get into TOP Management positions in Finance handling the finance activities. The current activities are limited to captive unit's Accounting & Finance, Business Planning and Reporting.

Long term goal: to reach top positions in Finance like CFO

I am planning to apply to good Executive MBA programs or 2 year MBA in US in top 25 business schools. Please review my profile and suggest which schools are suitable for my experience and career goals.

Regards,
Krishna

yo Krishna,
If you really want to hit up Top 25 schools as an Indian candidate, you are gonna need to crank up that GMAT!

At least a 660 for you would be fantastic. And any higher, even better.

Have a look at this post about Indians retaking the GMAT. You might find it helpful: https://bit.ly/B613Mgc

Best,
Jon
