Hi - I'd like to apply to the MBA programs at Booth, Kellogg, Stanford, Yale and Harvard. I'm wondering if I have the profile required to apply -
Age: 27
Demographics: White, Female
Undergraduate Majors: Finance and Accounting, Ohio State University
GPA: 3.69
Work Experience: 5 years in Consulting at Ernst & Young (Manager effective October 1), Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
GMAT: 710 - Q47, V41 IR7 AWA TBD
Extracurriculars:
- Run an indoor volleyball league, play indoor and beach
- Small side business as a care giver for dogs and cats
- Work with refugees to assimilate to USA living and teach financial literacy classes in Chicago
Additionally, during college, I worked in operations at a small startup aimed at helping Chinese students study in the United States. Since then, I've continued to provide consulting advice on growing the business, setting up HR functions, and preparing to expand into new markets.
Should I retake the GMAT? I think I could raise my score to a 730 potentially in 3 weeks. I'd like to apply during R1.

Hi smitha00,
Thank you for your post. Your GPA is strong and extracurriculars look like a potential differentiator, so definitely be sure to unlock those experiences in your applications. Work experience looks solid, though not necessarily "blue chip" as the consulting hierarchy goes. Your school list tilts pretty aggressive. Extra points on the GMAT would help, but even then it's an aggressive disposition. HBS and Stanford should almost always be viewed as reaches (if not significant reaches), and here they'll represent 40% of your application strategy.
Round 1 is coming, but if you really feel like you have another 20+ points in you and can make it happen in the next three weeks, I do believe it will help. You'd be in better range for Booth, Kellogg, and Yale. That's not to say you'd miss on all three with a 710, but I'd feel better about it with a 730+. If you're applying with a 710, then I think your school list needs some recalibration. It's still aggressive with a 730, as mentioned, but at least then it's more reasonably aggressive. No matter the score, your application execution will need to be superb.

(Separate topic and random stat, but as of a few years ago only about 1 in 10 students at top programs came from a American public university that wasn't Berkeley, UCLA, Virginia, Michigan, or UT Austin. I personally don't love that fact, but those were the numbers. You have a great GPA, but it's a little extra context to have in the back of one's mind as you engage with the process.)
There's always a lot more nuance than can be captured in a linear post. I'd welcome the chance to elaborate via a Free Consultation, so please feel free to sign up below!
