J2S2019
Hello all,
I want to get my profile evaluated & guidance regarding which B-schools to choose; I am planning to get admitted on R1, 2021
I would appreciate if you could take a look at my profile and give me a realistic approach regarding my chances and guide me further regarding how to approach on critical fronts of my application process.
Here are some information regarding my background :-
1> I have taken my GMAT yesterday. I scored a dismal 650 (Q 49, V 28, IR 5). Though i am planning to re-appear for the test in next 2 months of time, it will be really helpful if you can evaluate my profile based on my current GMAT score.
2>STD 10- 91% (2006), STD 12 - 86%(2008) (state board)- For both these cases, as i was among the top most %ile rank holders, i received scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.
--Represented school Soccer team & participated in different debate competitions.
3>B. tech in Electronics and communication Engineering from one of the top engineering college(Institute of Engineering & Management) with a 9.01/10 GPA (scaled GPA 4.0) in the year 2012
--Part of college student council that represented various college activities. Student co-ordinator for College events.
4>Placed in 4 different MNCs after my Undergrad degree.
5> Joined leading Telecomm. service provider in their Global services operations in India as a Engineering trainee on 2012, working for last 7 years.
6>Promoted twice in the meantime, currently working as a Senior Network Engineer.
7> Worked for multiple telecomm operators around the globe, giant names of Africa, US & Europian operators are among them.
8>Internation exposure in Zambia, Africa for couple of months as i was a part of the team who was engaged in commercial launch of a brand new technology there.
9> Also I was in Germany for sometime as a specialist working for a new project. Leading a team of 10~20 people with constant customer interactions.
10> Part of technical recruitment team of my organization.
11> Part of cultural & brand awarness team in my organization.
12> Multiple key performance award winner for outstanding delivery efforts.
13> Team member for automation & cost-saving programmes in my organization.
Schools I am targetting:-
MIT,Said,HBS,Kellog,Duke,Tepper,Columbia,Booth,INSEAD,Rotman,HEC,NUS,ISB & IIM's - Few to name among all
I am planning to get admitted on R1 2021/R2 2020.
I would like to draw my experience in Consulting or Marketting post my MBA, Healthcare & Technology sectors are my prime area of consideration.
I know the Schools i am targetting consider GMAT score well above my current one & i am part of an over-represented Indian male demographic, but i want suggestions on which areas to concentrate more so that a strong application can help me out from the possible drawbacks i am having in my profile.
Your kind evaluation in all aspects are welcome & highly appreciated. Also, Please suggest if any alternative schools that i may consider depending on my Profile.|
Thanks in Advance.
Hi,
A few points:
1. Retake the GMAT. You should aim for a 730+ for the programs on your target list.
2. Are you planning to apply next year? its not very clear from your post whether you wish to apply or start b-school next year. At 7 years of work experience, you are already on the older side for many of the target programs. If you apply next year, you will have 8 years experience and will start b-school only in 2021 with 9 years experience. Thats a bit much for full time MBA programs. Suggest you to realistically evaluate how you can retake the GMAT and also apply in the January R2 deadlines (R3 does not work for international applicants)
3 Your work experience, especially the international exposure would be of high value to the MBA class. The telecom industry is regulated across countries, so your insights on how the industry varies between countries, the ease (or lack thereof) of doing business because of this will be valuable. Although you ave a technical profile you must demonstrate an understanding of the businees side as well as your understanding of the macro issues within your induetry.
4. You have far too many programs on your list. While it gives a sense of empowerment to applicants to be able to apply to so many programs, but its not a wise thing to do. Apply to programs where you have a good fit, and submit a solid application there.
Hope that helps
