AFAIK average work experience in the US top 20 is around 4-5 years and average age is around 27.

I'm guessing you want to do consulting/analytics post MBA in the US itself.

Your academics and GMAT scores are strong, but your years of work experience is below average.

IMHO 2022 seems like the right choice.

Thank you for your feedback! Do you have any insights about how I can improve my profile meanwhile?

A few thoughts for you to ponder on indiagirl123:
  1. First up, great job on the ISB admit. The academic arc looks strong - will be good to know the name of your college. The GMAT score very nicely complements your academics.
  2. The average experience for top MBA colleges is indeed in the 4-5 years range. Thus, even 2022 intake will be ideally early. That means you should look at ways to build the profile in a way that helps you stand out - cannot sit only on past laurels.
  3. It does sound like you have a good ECs arc during college - not sure how good though as not much details provided. Make sure to not let up on those.

Hope this helps some.

Cheers,

Hi all,

I am a 23y/o Indian female engineer who graduated with science and engineering degrees from India's top private engineering college.

I wish to pursue MBA from one of the top 20 B-schools and have a deferred admission to Indian School of Business.

Currently working as a data scientist with a known Indian group of companies since Jun 2019 where I interned previously.

Besides this, I have been an active volunteer at a ngo working with underprivileged children.

Had actively worked as a leader for multiple college extra curricular groups too.

My scores are as follows:

Class 10: 10/10 CGPA
Class 12: 96%
College dual degree: 8.6/10 GPA
GMAT: 760

Also, would it be better to apply for 2021 intake or 2022 intake?

Hello indiagirl123,

Apologies for the delayed response but we hope this will be of help to you still.

You have a fine academic background and a very good GMAT score. Your experience as a data scientist will also prove to be a differentiating factor.

Having said the above, we suggest that you apply to the 2022 intake as your experience is on the lower side; besides, this period will give you substantial time to work on building your profile. Focus on acquiring leadership skills at work (as well as beyond), maximizing your achievements, and engaging in extra-curricular activities (instead of looking at purely volunteering roles, try and take up a solid leadership profile).

Should you have follow-up questions, please feel free to reach out to us.

Good luck!
