Hi,
I would really appreciate if someone can evaluate my profile. I am planning to apply for Schulich in R1 with my current GMAT score of 660 . I am retaking GMAT again in November and considering to apply for Rotman, UBC Sauders, Alberta, ISB and more schools in R2 (hopefully with an improved score of 700+)
GMAT Current Score- 660 (Q49, V31)
Undergrad GPA - 7.8/10 (Top 20%) from BITS Pilani (Top 5 college for engineering in India). I had a very bad first year as I had to skip my classes/assignments to visit a number of banks in order to fund my education.
Work Experience:
~6 years as a process engineer/Project lead in Top Oil & gas consulting firm. I have interacted with various clients across the globe and have travelled (internationally & domestically) for customer interface meetings as a process engineer during the initial stages of my career and as a team lead (4-5 engineers) in the past 2 years. I have also acted as Quality & Safety Management Systems Team lead and led various initiatives such as digitization and firm's first Unconventional Oils Project. i have also coached/mentored new hires and interns. I have been in the top elbow rating for the past 5 years and has 1 promotion. I was due for another promotion in May but the company has delayed it because of Covid impact. I have received 7 individual awards and 1 team award over the past 6 years. I am also certified six sigma green belt professional.
ExtraCurricular Activities & Achievements: Acted as a co-ordinator for two clubs/departments in college, organizing events in sports/cultural festivals back in college.
Received Merit Cum Need Scholarship for seven consecutive semesters in college for being among the top 20%.
Fastest running team in Company's annual running race event for 3 years (out of 6).
Organized an Annual Event attended by 400 plus employees in the organization.
Member of the Company's Cricket and Football team.
Long term goals: I have worked in Oil & gas refining for the past 6 years .With the ever increasing global energy demands and increasing role of energy in impacting the global economy, I want to be in a position where i can have bigger impact on the Oil & Gas Industry and lead firms to transition to renewable sources for a sustainable future.

maddy9292, a few thoughts on your profile evaluation and plans:

- The academic pedigree from BITS is solid. The overall GPA is actually not bad at all and if you have a solid reason for the issue in first year, that should be alright. The issue will of course be the GMAT. While it may not be a deal breaker at Schulich, schools would usually expect a lot more from someone with your pedigree. So, a retake will definitely be good. While R1 is good, remember, it's never at the cost of a sub-optimal application. So don't have to necessarily rush it in with a modest score when you know you can do a lot better.
- The professional trajectory sounds good and the recognitions will help. It'll be useful to understand the brand of your employer though. While O&G experience is fine, this industry or the renewable, doesn't hire international grads much. If you haven't make sure you've researched on the feasibility and specificity of your post-MBA plans as they don't seem well thought through at the moment.
- The ECs arc is good and consistent. This is why schools care for ECs. Make sure to leverage that well.
- Unless there is a specific reason for Canada only, why not look at some programs in other geographies as well?
