You have an outstanding and distinctive profile. However, you will definitely need a 700 at a minimum to have a chance at the schools you listed. It's your only major weakness. I think leaving your job would have a major negative impact on your chances of admission. I don't think there's anyway to spin it that would compensate for that negative impact. One solution might be to go ahead and leave the job but to aim lower on the B-school food chain. In terms of how to position yourself, I would downplay the 'generalist' theme and emphasize the international or 'Joe World' theme. You are really strong in international exposure. In terms of schools, you are definitely aiming high, so even if you get a 700 GMAT I would recommend adding a few 'high-confidence' schools to your list as a backup.

Thanks for the quick reply and the honest words.
So, just to clarify, do you think me leaving my job in general is a negative thing to do? Or were you considering me applying while unemployed? I do plan on getting a job and hopefully I'll get lucky and get a job with a reputable company. My fear is that even if I were to find a decent job at a nice company, I'd practically be applying for MBA programs just a couple months afterwards. It's a pretty tight spot to be in since I am getting married this summer and my fiance has already found a teaching job back home.
I agree with applying to a couple "safe" schools. The programs I like the most so far are Tuck, Kellogg and Duke. I will be adding other "safer" schools later but I really think that if I can get my GMAT up to scratch and write some good essays (big assumptions I know), my unique background will give me an advantage. Who knows?
When it comes to the actual essays, should I use the time/space to address my move home or what do you think?
