Hi
Demography : 26/M/Indian/Engineer
location : Bangalore, India
Job Profile : Quantitative Analyst, Investment management Firm(One of the Big 5 in US)
Experience : 3 years as S/W engineer, 2 years as a Quantitative Analyst (Fixed Income)
Leadership Experience : Mentoring junior quants in their work, campus recruitment etc.
Recos : good
Acad : 6.52/10(B.Tech,Mech. Engg) IIT
GMAT : 700 (49Q, 35V) /5.5 (second attempt): first attempt 680 (49Q,34V))
Other qualification : Cleared CFA level 1 last year.
Extras : good in college : event management, lead teams a few times, active in college politics. nothing much after that.
I have no regrets that my GPA suffered because of these activities. After all college is the time to experiment. If you don't experiment in college then chances are you will never experiment. I was also coaching IIT aspirants in Maths and Physics when I was in college. I love teaching and was thinking of continuing this after college but felt that only IIT cannot (and should not) be essence of my existence.
Played soccer and T.T. for my college and school. Participate in corporate sport events
Salary progression very good but no promotions . The good part is that performance has been good in all the organizations and can get recos from almost all these organizations
Job shifts : changed jobs 3 times but each job change meant a change in job profile . Didn't want to limit my self to a particular field with out exploring other fields.(Desgin Engineer->computational geometry->Quantitative Developer->Quantitative Analyst). The fact that I am the only person with bachelors in my group means something to me. I don't know whether it will mean anything to the AdCom.
Career goals : move to a Sell side firm in an I-Banking profile not for the big bucks but for the kind of job. Moreover,I love the competition in the I Banking industry and love the fact slogging is a norm in I-Banks.
As I write my profile , I become increasingly conscious that I don't have any thing terrific in my profile. I seem to have wasted a lot of time. But the fact of the matter is that I had given up all hopes of doing a Masters. It was only after I cleared my CFA level 1 exam last year, scroing the best possible across all sections,I realized that I can study further.
Why do I want to do an MBA ? to change the kind of job I am doing but at the same time I want to remain in Finance.
Which schools do you think are with in my reach?Should I consider taking GMAT again I get a feeling that I can get closer to 750 mark. While I was not too disappointed with my first attempt, I am definitely disappointed with my second attempt considering the kind of effort that I had put in. I really like the LBS MiF program:One year course and focused on what I want to do but not sure whether my profile is competitive enough.
Worried, nervous and thinking.....
Thanks
