Nationality: West Indian
Age: 31
WE: 8 yrs - corporate law, financial services regulation
Leadership:
- Promoted through ranks from Legal Officer I to Snr Legal Officer
-In Manager's absence, administratively in charge of 5 lawyers and support staff.
-Mentored junior lawyers and law students.
-Leads team of financial regulators at on-site meetings on legal issues.
-Leads legislative reform policy team on legal issues.
GMAT (August '08): 700 (Q.79%, V.89%, A.W.A.5.5)
GPA: Not applicable
Education:
- 3 yr law degree (Lower Second Class from Univ of West Indies)
- Legal Education Certificate (2 yrs)
- Diploma in Financial Management (ACCA)
Extra-curricular: pro-bono legal work, employer facilitated community outreach programme
Concerned about starting MBA at age 32 and effectively transitioning from law into business. What are my chances for the above schools?

You have an unusual profile and strong numbers, with age being your only possible weakness. Haas may be a modest longshot for, but by all means apply there. You should be competitive at Darden and should get in at the Canadian schools. Given your goals and the distinctiveness and competitiveness of your profile, you may also want to apply at Stern, MIT, Rochester, and perhaps Chicago as a longshot school. Applying to these schools' part-time programs will increase your odds of admission if a part-time MBA is something you'd consider.

Thanks for taking the time to advise me on a very important decision. It was particularly good to hear that I should get into the Canadian schools since, given my age, I cannot afford to miss starting the MBA next year.
