Wanted to pick your brains on the admissions process and my profile.
Ill be applying R1 to MIT and R2 to Yale, Wharton, Cornell and Chicago
this fall and wanted to get your thoughts on my profile.
A couple of months ago, I relocated back to the US after seven
wonderful years in SE Asia with the plan of starting my own business
here in Louisiana, get involved in the community and apply for B-School.
I feel ready to apply and after my research, Sloan is my number 1
choice. Round 1 deadline is October 27th, 2009 and wanted to get some
tips and highlights on what the drivers will be to gain admittance.
I was a US Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines and was issued resolutions crediting me with generating
thousands of new IT jobs and generating an economic activity of over
$120 million over the past five years. In addition to this, I started a
non-profit which incorporated a business plan competition that brought
principles from the MIT 50k. Prior to the Peace Corps, I was highly
involved in entrepreneurial activities (winner of business plan
competitions, school delegate to the MIT GSW in Australia in 2001 and
founder of the Entrepreneurship Club and Inaugural Entrep Symposium).
All of this led to me joining the Peace Corps etc.
After the Peace Corps, I worked for TeleTech in the acquisitions and
business development in SE Asia including developing the provincial
strategy for the operations, working with local and international
governments on incentive programs and M/A/sales opportunities.
Of course then at IPVG, I worked exclusively on M/A for their fastest
growing unit and on the side did PESO among other things.
Started a company (VerosBPO) which I own 22%.
Finally, after having come back to the states, been very active getting
Narrasupport up and running and highly active in the Louisiana Peace
Corps Association
Thus, I feel and correct me if I am wrong, career progression,
increased responsibilities and duties.
Reasons for going back to school: a.) lots of gaps in my knowledge b.)
Often got frustrated with myself for not having the "toolbox" to
adequately respond to situations and problems and c.) Have done as much
as I can and need a MBA to take me to the next level
Post MBA Plan: Investment Bank (emerging markets), consulting (emerging
markets) then head back to Louisiana to start a social entrepreneurship
fund.
Cons part: GPA is bad and recently took GMAT was 640 (45 Q / 33 V
and 5.5 AWA)
Let me know what you think.
