Hello,
Overall, I think Wharton and Booth will be tough for you. That doesn't meant you shouldn't apply, but know that you will probably have a tough time getting in unless you can come up with multiple ways to overcome the fact that you come from a very competitive applicant pool (male/Indian/IT). So, you probably should look at some less competitive schools as well. Which schools will at least partly be determined by what you want to do with your MBA.
Re: the "Indian/IT" thing... Yours is unfortunately just a very common profile among applicants, and admissions officers can't accept all of them, so you really need to stand out vs. the competition and demonstrate why YOU are the "Indian/IT" applicant they will take instead of the eight others who look just as good.
Re: your job and your extracurricular involvement, I hope you have enough examples of leadership and impact (leading a team, saving a project from disaster, making a fund-raising event happen, etc.) to point to. It's not enough to say "I'm the project coordinator"... You need to be able to say "As leader of the team I managed relationships with various departments, balancing multiple business needs, keeping everyone on task, balancing different personality types, and keeping us within budget to hit our goals." That's what admissions officers really care about.
You're starting to get a little "old" in admissions officers' eyes, so you definitely should apply this year. But, as much as you can do on the job and in your community to make a real impact in the next few months, that will help your chances at Wharton, Booth, and other top U.S. programs.
Good luck!
Scott
Awesome. This is the best review I have ever received about my profile. Now that I have completely understood that what I need to "show" in my essays, I can do it in effective manner. Thanks a lot for a detailed reply. This really helps.
