I am Ashish Pareek. My profile is as follows.

Age - 31 (2005 college grad)
Gender - Male
Nationality – Indian

Education – Engineering graduate from an Indian university
GPA - 3
GMAT2 - 660 (Q47, V34)
GMAT1 - 590(Q42, V28)

Professional experience–
9 years of experience in Product Design and development of Automobile Components related to BIW
Currently working as Senior Asst. Manager in a top Indian automobile company (Bajaj Auto Ltd.)
Managing a team of 6 people for various activities of designing and development
Worked for 5 yrs in one of top Japanese MNC automobile company (Maruti Suzuki India ltd.)
Started career in a small Indian automobile company (Sonalika International Tractors ltd.)

Professional Accomplishments –
Designed low cost tools for fully indigenous project (An MUV) in my first job
Worked on the designing of fully indigenous ambitious project (Alto 800) of my last company, which become the most successful car in the country
Working on an novel vehicle for Indian roads which will replace cheap transportation

Was awarded Top Suggestor for implementing various suggestions related to Cost saving, Quality improvement.
Prepared and presented papers on topics such as “Optimum design of BIW for crashworthiness” and “Optimum design of Front door hinge for crashworthiness”.

Extracurricular-

Participated and completed Mumbai Full Marathon 2013 and Delhi Half Marathon 2010 & 2011.
Worked as a core member volunteer for Gurgaon chapter of an NGO named AID India
Choreographed and performed Bhangra at MSIL on the Annual function of Maruti Suzuki Ltd.
Member of Football team for In House Football League in MSIL
Active member of Officer’s Club in cultural activities at ITL
Coordinator of College Cultural Committee
Participated and won prizes in G.D., debate, acting, mimicry etc
Core member of College Cricket Team which won 2nd prize in Inter College Championship

Plans for after school-
start a Social enterprise based on organic farming to make poor farmers independent and educated
Help other people to be social entrepreneur, if they have good ideas

My questions are :

Q1 : Is my profile appropriate for following business Schools ?
1. Stephen M. Ross School of Business - University of Michigan
2. Tuck School of Business | Dartmouth College
3. Johnson Graduate School of Management - Cornell University
4. Darden School of Business, University of Virginia
5. Stanford Business School

Q2 : Total expenses of MBA in mentioned business schools is as follows:
1. Stephen M. Ross School of Business - University of Michigan (Total cost of MBA : $152852)
2. Tuck School of Business | Dartmouth College (Total cost of MBA : $189210)
3. Johnson Graduate School of Management - Cornell University (Total cost of MBA : $163784)
4. Darden School of Business, University of Virginia (Total cost of MBA : $173002)
5. Stanford Business School (Total cost of MBA : $198870)
My question is will I have to pay this much of money to do MBA from these schools or there will some financial aid/scholarships from these schools ?
If yes, then how much will I have to pay for my MBA ?
If No, then will i get educational loan of this much amount and how much time it takes an average student to repay this loan ?

Hi Ashish,

You have a good profile, but the GMAT score is the only concern considering the schools you are planning to apply. School selection process is very critical. You will have to choose the schools wisely, so that you apply to the schools which has best possibility for you to get the admit.

Hi Ashish,

You've got a strong profile with great work experience, lots of accomplishments/achievements, management skills and experience, lots of extra curriculars (although a lot of them seem to be from your college years - try and get more involved in the meantime so there are more current extra curriculars) and an interesting post MBA goal. I feel that your profile fits well with all of the schools criteria.

But I agree with Neha as your GMAT is a bit too low, particularly coming from the highly competitive Indian applicant pool so if you can retake that, it will definitely increase your chances of admission. Aim for above 700, scoring around the 75+ percentile for both the quant and verbal parts of the exam. (For Stanford even higher).

In terms of costs, yes indeed the costs are very high aren't they!? The good news is there are always scholarships available for every school but every school is unique. So you have to read about each scholarship criteria for each school, some also offer loan programs that are specific to that school. So this will take a bit of researching, also see what is available in your country as some organizations give out scholarships to students doing an MBA abroad.

Hi Ashish,

I see that with 10 years of work experience, you are not a regular applicant. No harm there...people do get in with your age and work exp. However, I strongly feel you must retake the GMAT. At 660, you will be competitive at very few schools, and this score is coupled with a not so spectacular GPA. (how did you convert your GPA by the way? Most b-schools  do not   expect you to convert because this is a complex process. So, I do hope that you are reporting a GPA which is much lower than your original.

May I ask you of the impetus behind your post MBA goals? Your profile description does not mention anything about an interest in the social sector. Therefore when you say your career goals revolve around social entrepreneurship, then its a little hard to believe. An adcom would like to know about your previous involvement in a social enterprise. Otherwise it sounds like you are just trying to impress the reader (which will be the adcom). Moreover, it also suggest that you are going to waste the past 9 years of work experience by doing something radically different that requires a different set of skills compared to what you have used so far. Since your finances is a consideration it may not be feasible to get into entrepreneurship immediately after MBA, before you can begin paying off your education loans.

The programs on your list are very competitive and selective. I would advise that you filter this list and add a couple of other b-schools that will be within your reach.
