Hi Dreamer111,

Happy to help. I look forward to hearing from you in two weeks time.

Good luck with GMAT!

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I'd love to discuss in more detail once I get a clearer picture of what my GMAT score is likely to be (retaking in 2 weeks).

Wow!!! you are truly global. I just love the fact that you have lived/ studied/worked in so many different countries. And now you are studying Japanese - shows your orientation towards gaining multicultural experiences.

I am going to strongly recommend you study well for GMAT, crack it to achieve 730+ and apply to higher ranked programs than the ones you have listed. And your application should emphasize on your international experiences. I am going to ask you to look into a few programs- LBS, INSEAD, Wharton Lauder, Tuck....we can later discuss where to apply depending upon your overall profile, but atleast look into these.

All the best for GMAT and keep us updated

Gender: Male
Nationality: Pakistan
Age: 25

Education and Background:
- Born in Pakistan but grew up in Bahrain (till High School)
- Received full scholarship to go to boarding school in Canada
- Went to Uni in the UK (Top 20 in the World)
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2nd Class Honours (Lower)) - GPA converts to 3.01 on the WES calculator. Essentially went through a bit of a rough patch in the middle of the degree but rebounded strongly towards the end. Will address this in the optional essay.

Work Experience:
- Global Project Coordinator for large Industrial Automation company in Tokyo. Essentially technical sales to customers (Big Oil and renowned EPC contractors).
- Currently 26 months. Will be 40 months by matriculation.
- Studying Japanese. Will have official intermediate proficiency certification at time of application.

GMAT: Taking on Sunday. Hoping for something in the 700-730 range. Practice test average has been 720.

Target Industry: Tech Consulting at Big 4 (Dream would be BCG but I know it's difficult)

I'm hoping I can leverage my international experience and a strong GMAT (hopefully) to make up for that GPA.

Target Schools: Foster, McDonough, Mccombs, Owen, Mcgill, Rotman
Reach: Goizueta, Johnson

I've not really spoken to anyone about my MBA aspirations so I would love to get your opinion about my profile and my chances at the schools above.

Thanks!

Hi Dreamer111,

Thanks for posting! I think you've put yourself in a good position for your upcoming MBA applications. Obviously, the GPA is a bit on the low side but I don't think it hurts you as long as the optional essay explains your extenuating circumstances.

A lot is going to hinge on the GMAT. On paper, your work experience and background are strong. You are well-traveled and it sounds like you've worked with clients across the world. Do you have any direct reports? What has your promotion schedule been like? Fast-tracked responsibility is something that is very important for schools and shows great leadership potential.

I happen to think your list of schools is rather conservative, and I see you being competitive at schools ranked 10-15 if you can clear 720 on the GMAT. Feel free to reach out at [email protected] once you have taken the GMAT to talk more about your upcoming applications!

Regards,

Hi Dreamer111 ,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Firstly I would like to address the fact that you have a diverse profile that would catch the attention of the admission committee.
Your GPA is slightly on the lower side and hence you should try to achieve a GMAT score of 700+ to make up for that.
You have a good amount of international experience however you need to work on your extracurricular activities and managemental/leadership experience.

School shortlisting will, of course, depend on your GMAT score but your selection chances will be dependent primarily on your application and essay.
You have a lot of experience and achievement points to use and if you can create a cohesive flow around them it will help make a decent application.
Kellog, Berkeley-Haas, UCLA are some of the top schools for Tech Consulting so you should try to add them to your list of target schools.

I assume you have got your GMAT score by now. If you could share it, it will make it easier to analyze your chances.
