Dear Alex,
I've read many of your answers in this forum and I really like your honesty and your straightforwardness. I would be glad if you could give me a feedback.
Following please find the underlying data of me.
Person:
German (half Indonesian but no citizenship), Male, 26 years old (next summer 27)
Languages:
German, English, Indonesian, Spanish (Basics)
Undergraduate Record:
Bachelor in Business Administration, German university, Major in Controlling. German grade of 1.5 (within the best 10% of my class).
Working experience:
Besides a couple of internships and student jobs I have two major experiences:
1. 1.5 years in Germans biggest student consultancy (All co-workers - mostly economists - work in fulltime and stop their studies during that time). Thereof 13 months as managing director. As MD I was – within a team of 2 MDs – responsible for 45 employees and a sales volume of approx. 1 Mio. EUR. Besides being the head of 3 departments I had the opportunity to manage over 20 projects for bigger German companies (various industries, wide range of project topics: process analysis, customer segmentation, market analysis, etc.). Before I got promoted to MD I worked as a consultant in a project (process analysis) for a NPO.
I’m excited how you asses this kind of working experience, considering that this was not a post graduate job. Although it has been a "strong position" in my CV so far.
Anyway, during the time as MD I got a job offer from one of our clients, see next station.
2. 2,5 years as Assistant to the MD of a wholesaler in Germany, 1,300 employees. Besides the everyday work as extended arm of the MD, I was a part of a team that coordinates the yearly budgeting process of over 60 branches.
Usually the job as an Assistant is just the start for a management career within that company, but I think I want to change the direction a little and “go back” to consulting. So I have decided to join a MBA program in 2011 to have a nice basis for applying at one of the big Management Consultants (McK, BCG, Bain, etc.)
I’m still quite unsure whether it is the right time or whether I’m good enough, but here is my list of b-schools:
- Insead
- LBS
- IE
- IESE
- HEC
- Esade
- Oxford
Although I have figured out only European schools, I’m also thinking about studying in US (Wharton, Stanford, Yale).
I haven’t done the GMAT yet, but if I can continue my current pace of preparation, I’m confident to crack the 700.
I look forward to your feedback and thank you in advance for your efforts.
Kind regards,
Thomas
