I am interested in starting my MBA studies in September 2012.
I have just completed my GMAT (score 700 - q47 v38) and will be getting into the next phase of applications for business school.
Before I get into the meat of things, I want to have a reality check of my profile.
Any comments, suggestions, and feed back will be much appreciated.

-4 yrs Full time as an Engineer and asst. lead at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, Savannah GA, U.S.A
- My current responsibilities are more inline with project management
- I am responisbile for conducting design review meeting with all stake holders and resolve conflincts
- 1 yr co-op experience in Fedex Express Air Operations and General Electric

Masters in Aerospace Engineering(2007) - Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida, U.S.A - GPA 3.5

As with the rest of the applicants from India, your main challenge will be to differentiate yourself from the pool. It does help that you do not belong to the IT pool but at the end, you will be evaluated in the larger context of applications from Indian subcontinent. You should definitely leverage your strong leadership activities outside work to the maximum. At the same time, the adcom will be looking at your performance at work. While your GMAT may not be a weak point in your profile, it is also not going to be a strength considering the 740s and 750s that so many applicants have from your region. One thing that you should be thinking about sooner than later is your goals. Your list of target schools should driven by your career plan post MBA.
Overall, a lot of students with profile similar to your profile gets into the Ivy schools, lot of them do not. Your chances of success will depend on you well you execute your application.

Since you are aiming for IVY schools then a score above 700 is desirable. However GMAT alone won’t determine your chances of admission; beyond the academics will also help you in determining your candidature and your work experience plays a vital role as well.
Generally most of the Indian applicants are from engineering background with a good 4-5 years of work experience. Although it is not just the work experience that counts but also what you did there like-what were your achievements, what initiative you took, what changes you drove in your workplace etc. So if you can show that in 5 years you have demonstrated the skills business schools are looking for you could put in a strong set of essays. So Start thinking what makes you unique and what’s that ‘hook’ that will be key to your application.
Hence the quality of your work, your academics and beyond academics will play an important role in determining your candidature.
Your leadership profile is very interesting so make sure you highlight it well along with other features that differentiate you from other engg background Indian applicants.
