Hello All,

Which is best as per this profile..?? An MBA (in a B school that accepts the GRE) or MS in Management.?? Kindly suggest suitable universities/B-schools (world-wide) for the below profile :

GRE : 305 (Verbal- 147, Quant- 158)
IELTS : 7
Years of Professional Work Experience (MNC) : 5 years
Excellent record of co-curricular activities
High School CGPA :3.5 (Converted from Percentage scores in Indian schools)
Upper High School CGPA : 3.24 (Converted from Percentage scores in Indian schools)
Under Grad CGPA (B.Tech Deemed University) :2.5 (Converted from Percentage scores in Indian universities)

MBA vs. MS is more of a question about what you want to do with your career afterwards. If your desired career goals are more aligned with the recruitment cycle of companies who seek MBAs, that's clearly a better choice than going with MS in management or finance, for example, where those same companies perhaps don't recruit at all or as heavily. MS is considered more focused, and also a better path for an academic career or a specific career in a given discipline. Admissions can be easier for MS programs vs. MBA programs because they are not as competitive (fewer people are applying). Additionally, the MS will be pickier about your undergrad GPA (high school is completely irrelevant), whereas MBAs will be a bit more forgiving. Hope this helps.

Hello Bryan,

Thanks for your response. As you said, my desired career goal is more aligned with the recruitment cycle of companies which would aim to find candidates who are good at the tech side as well as the management. Since I have an experience of 5 years from a Tech domain, I hope a balance of both would make my future more fruitful. An MBA, have been always a dream for me, but my GRE and undergrad GPA bothers me a lot to aim for it. And so my biggest challenge is to find a program that suit my needs as well as, that has better scope in the market. I've also heard that people with higher technical expertise opt for MS in Engineering Management, a program that I have limited information of. I need to know as per the current market, how would a recruiter analyse a candidate, graduated with such a program to fill him into a remarkable position in his company.

I do not have any geographical restrictions for my choices and as a highlight I have excellent record of extra curricular and social activities.

I shall be much obliged if you could help me with the above concern of mine and provide valuable suggestions about programs and universities offering it..

Georgia Tech has an MSMOT (Masters in Management of Technology) which gets a lot of attention from tech recruiters. You might also look at Tepper and Perdue, which has an MS in IT and also an MS in Technology Leadership and innovation.
