Hi,
Following is my brief profile:
Age: 32
Hi mbaapplicant22! Let me comment below on your profileGMAT: 740 (QA:51, VA:38, IR:8)
excellent GMAT- congrats- your age- while young to me! is on the upper side for B school Full time programs- but it is what it is and if all else is strong that is a bigger driver than ageWork Ex: 86 months
Pre-MBA: 40 months pre-MBA in data analytics and setting up my own education center (became largest in region even though I had very limited budget to start with)
Post-MBA: 46 months
1. Part of large global e-commerce launch in India. Launched and scaled one of the categories from scratch. Responsible for revenue and selection growth. Ended up being one of the fastest growing and most profitable categories
2. Working in SE-Asia, leading team of 9 (2 direct, 7 indirect) and scaling up key product offering of e-commerce and strategic planning.
In short, I have been involved in high growth e-commerce firms in India and SE-Asia with high impact
Work Ex:
Education: B.Tech. in IT from average college, MBA from top 3 IIM with average CGPA
CAT- 99.9 percentile (top 40 out of ~1.5 million students- entrance exam for Indian B-school)
Reason for doing 2nd MBA:
1. More international exposure in developed geographies (all my learnings and work-ex have been in developing nations)
2. To work in US in an e-commerce firm where the whole ecosystem is more evolved. Opportunities are non-existent if I apply directly
Target B-school: Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Booth (maybe INSEAD)
You might consider the Stanford MSx program- MBA for mature career professionals and with a 20% acceptance rate your odds are much better than FT MBA there- also MIT has a similar Sloan Fellows program that might be a good fit with your background. The other program that might make sense is Columbia J term where you don't need the internship- but maybe you do if trying to break into US market.I don't want to apply outside top 5- no disrespect to B-schools but it is just that given my stage of career I am more comfortable in going for MBA again if it is in top 5
having the other MBA is going to make the top admission tougher- which is why I suggest you consider Stanford MSx and also MIT- but in answering why H/S/W let me say... you certainly have the stats to apply and if you do apply I encourage you to let someone help guide you- as these are all competitive schools and it helps to have some guides- as many of your fellow applicants are getting help here also... so for the link to get a free consult to tell you how we can help you present in the best possible light and help you manage the sticky points- age and other MBA- here is a link for free consult: https://stratusadmissionscounseling.com ... b-visitor/
And here is the link for our free newsletter with lots of good tips on admissions topics:https://stratusadmissionscounseling.com/newsletter-admissions/
Extra-curric:
- few B-school contests in IIM
- launched an initiative for physically challenged students which got covered in national dailies
- diploma in a music instrument but I've been stage shy- so no performances to back this up
- led an initiative for rural employment that got awarded from member of parliament
My questions are:
1. Is there a reasonable chance for top 5? I'm not sure as my acads are average, non-IIT undergraduate degree and no recent extra-ecurric achievements (and the elephant in the room- 2nd MBA)
Never say never... you do have the stats to get a look- but as you mention you do come with some "baggage- see elephant in the room" so you will need to really deliver a top notch application in all other aspects and that's why I think if you want to give this your best shot you should seek out an admissions counselor! I have seen miracles happen...so if you are willing to put in the effort knowing it is not an easy road- there are people that can help you give it 100% effort!2. 2. Any suggestions of adding/deleting any US B-school given my profile (not too keen on part time MBA program or executive MBA)
see my notes above- but that's why I suggest Stanford MSx, and also consider how awesome it would be to get a scholarship- which I could possibly see happening at a school like UNC Kenan-Flagler, maybe Ross, maybe Fuqua, so that is the only reason to dip a bit- FREE or reduced cost takes away a lot of pain points and risk... so keep that in mind. I'd say maybe Kellogg or Booth too as those have all been ranked in top 5 at some point. Thanks for help
