Hi Stacy,
First of all, great job of guiding people - its really noble of you.
As others, I also would request you to evaluate my profile. My detailed profile and then the related questions are as follows:
Profile:
- Indian (currently in Singapore)/Female/28 years - Non IT (I did my graduation in Psychology and Mathematics)
- Did an MBA in India straight after graduation without any experience. Am sure you are aware that typically the Indian MBA don't need prior experience. For me it was more of an academic qualification, which did help me in securing a decent job but the other objectives of MBA were not met. I realised that after joining the corporate world and hence decided to go for a real MBA.
- After interacting with friends from top b schools, my need to do a global MBA was reinforced. I am telling you all this so that you have a clear idea of my background and goals.
- I intend to pursue an MBA in finance and want to work in the same sector - preferably in micro-finance to begin with and may be move on to social entrepreneurship later on.
- Work experience: 4.5 years in Banking - decent career progression from sales to product management and was consistently ranked among top 20% in the bank.
- GMAT: 680 (Q46, V37).
- Extra curricular:
-- Played Baseball tournaments at national level
-- Decent community work - was associated with a local NGO to teach underprivileged children for 3 years
-- Was active and won awards in various cultural activities during school and graduation
-- Won couple of awards in work place as well.
- Target schools:
-- Oxford (for its focus on social entrepreneurship)
-- LBS (is more finance focused)
-- ISB (Its a good Indian b school with less fee but the international appeal is less)
-- INSEAD
My questions are:
1. Should I retake GMAT considering my profile? I can certainly improve in quants and may be few more points in verbal too? Also I want to highlight that I have time at my hand.
2. What are your views on a second MBA?
3. How do schools take candidates with prior MBA? I know for sure that Standford does not encourage applicants with prior MBA, are there other schools who specify this?
4. I will be applying next year so any tips on making my application stronger will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
