Hi,

Can you please evaluate my profile (given below) with respect to my shortlisted schools.

GMAT:720

Undergrad: First class, Bachelor of Engineering from University of Pune, India.

Prof experience (6+ years of FT till date):
- 5+ years with Telecom software products industry leader as Product consultant (Basically my job profile involves helping customers to map their business requirement to technical requirements, assist them to use our network management products to implement next generation networks). I am based out of UK.
- Prior to this, 1 year with Indian MNC as software engineer

Community service: I have been involved in lot of community service initiatives for past 4-5 years (Volunteering and fundraising both in UK and India) - HIV awareness, Child rights, Empowering underprivileged children : helping them complete their education and guiding them on vocational training options.

Extracurricular activities: Sports and dramatics

Post MBA goals: Product Management, Product Strategy in IT/Telecom.

Target Schools: Duke, Booth, NYU, McCombs, Darden, Tepper & Johnson. (I don't plan to apply to all of them but looking to apply to 4-5 of them.)

Can you please advise me whether I have selected the right schools. What are my chances of getting into my shortlisted schools?

Thanks a ton!

PS: I read your book 'MBA Admissions for Smarties'. It is really helpful. I am positive that will be a great guide when I start with my essays :)

First off, thanks for the feedback on MBA Admission for Smarties! I'm glad you find it helpful. We tried to pack it full of useful guidance.

I'm assuming your grades are good and from a school with a reputation for rigor.

Regarding your target schools and qualifications, you have chosen your schools well and are applying appropriately. You may also want to consider Ross. Booth is a stretch for you and if you want to try for a stretch, go for Kellogg, Haas, or MIT, given your goals.

If I were to narrow down your list, I would choose 1-2 from Kellogg, Haas, or MIT and then apply to Duke, and 3-4 from McCombs, Ross, Darden, Tepper & Johnson.

Best,
Linda

Thank you Linda,

I am looking into Kelloggs, Hass and MIT. I plan to apply to 5-6 schools. Probably 3 in first round and 2-3 in second round. Any suggestions which one should I target in first round. I plan to apply to Duke, Darden and Tepper in first and perhaps McCombs, Ross/Booth/Kellogg and a safe one.
Do you think I can consider McCombs or UNC as one of the safe schools?

Cheers!

Given your demographic, I'm not sure I would consider UNC and McCombs as safeties, but they are your most likely acceptances.

If you are not required to put down deposits that you are unwilling to lose for any round 1 acceptances until you hear from round 2 schools, then your approach to timing and rounds is excellent.

Best,
Linda

Thank you Linda. Your feedback has certainly cleared some of my doubts.

Cheers!
