Hi Everyone,

I am looking for Fall 2020 MBA application advice for colleges in US. I have attached my resume for my work experience. Thanks for your advice/suggestions.

GMAT 690 - Q 49, V 35, IR 7, AWA 4.5

After completing my MS in Computer Science I came back to India and joined family business. However when I was filling out a simple KYA form for my factory land at a government agency called GNIDA, it was informed to me to my utter shock that we owe an amount of 19,00,000 Rupees to it for lease rent! I decided to purse the sale of our old Swiss machines which were kept unused at our factory.
After 6 months of intense negotiations with a buyer in Switzerland, I managed to crack the deal at 20000 CHF (which was 3 times the price offered in India). I completed vacate the space at the ground floor of our factory to put it on rent, which as per the market rate can fetch 1,00,000 - 1,20,000 Rupees/month.
Also, I shifted my running factory with Luxor to the first floor of my factory and optimized work flow process.

I have managed to increase my GMAT score to 690, invested a percentage of business profit towards properties and procured a No Dues certificate from GNIDA within 2 years of joining family business. I aspire to work for a consulting firm with a focus on technology after completing my MBA.

Waiting for your feedback experts.
Regards,
Aayush Agrawal

aayush.works, 690 is decent but frankly not great a score to target top tier schools in US region, if you have any thought for targetting any particular schools?. I see you have given a great show with your family business in short spam for 2 years, which surely needs to elaborate while you start to craft your essays. Your achievements and leadership skilled executed will pump your chances to target good schools and make up for the GMAT score as well. MS from abroad university will be an advantage to show diversity in profile and adcom's may also be considered you as serious candidates for their program to invite you for the interview.

Try our mastered B school selector tool to know your chances for schools that can give a better future in consulting the post MBA.

Dear Sir,

Could you underscore 2 schools which I can target aside from Kelley?

Please evaluate my profile-GMAT 690

I am a Female Mechanical Engineer. Age 28. I have BE and MS in Mechanical Engg. I did my Master's from University of Cincinnati with a Graduate scholarship. Have worked for 4 years now. Now I am in a Project Manager role at an American Automotive Manufacturer. I recently was selected for the Forte Foundation program in the US. I also lead one of the groups within the corporate social responsibility team at our company.

GMAT- 690 Q46 V39.

I am planning to retake my GMAT in March and apply for FTMBA in 2021.

Can you please advice what my chances are of getting into a top tier B school in the US? Also, how can I improve my chances further?

Thank you.

aayush.works, a few thoughts on your profile:
  1. The academic profile looks decent overall given the Rutgers background. The GPA though looks modest overall and GMAT is on the modest side too - one can easily add 20-30 points to a given school's average to get a sense of the Indian GMAT average. Use that as a basic thumb rule and look at the average GMAT scores here.
  2. The professional profile is pretty eclectic as your pre and post MS work experience doesn't have much bearing on each other. Make sure you are able to connect the dots well. Getting into consulting will mean leaving behind the family business - another thing that will need to be defended well. Do bear in mind that consulting firms too tend to look at your GMAT.
  3. TA work during MS is usually not considered full-time work experience so reflect that appropriately.
  4. I don't see anything on the ECs front in the resume. This is why extracurricular matter in your resume. Anything on this front?

Hope this helps some more.

Cheers,

Kulka123, a few reflections on your profile:
  1. The academic arc looks about average. Will be good to understand your GPA and any other scholastic achievements therein. A retake will definitely help on this front.
  2. PM as a work experience sounds quite generic. Do explain the nature and highlights therein. Auto as a sector tends to be quite under-represented so make sure you are able to weave a compelling pitch.
  3. The ECs arc is good. Forte is a pretty known brand - what is the nature of the program you are a part of? Do make sure to leverage that well.
  4. Profile building is a pretty detailed area which we dwell deeper on in a very personalized manner. There isn't really a one size fits all generic approach there. So, you may want to evaluate this intervention.

Hope this helps some.

Cheers,
