Profile Evaluation - Male/ Indian working in Singapore

Hi,

Looking for some help with my profile evaluation. I'm looking to apply for the Fall'16 intake.

Age: 25
WE: 26 months
- Currently working as a Research Engineer at National University of Singapore.
- Deal with clean and renewable energy. Working on research pertaining to Smart Grids.

Education: Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Anna University, India. 86% - First Class with Hons (University third)
During my bachelors, I was into cricket and badminton. Was also the President of IEEE, Student Chapter.

Masters in Automation and Control, National University of Singapore. CAP - 4.1/5
-Actively involved in organization of various conferences
-Internship at STMicroelectronics, Development of pressure sensors for Samsung Galaxy S4.,

Why MBA?

To gain a holistic perspective over the business world. Looking forward to new skills and knowledge acquisition. Aim is to start a new company for solutions pertaining to Smart Grids.

GMAT Score

I gave my GMAT today. Scored 640. Q50, V27, IR - 7. Was feeling good during the exam, don't really know where I went wrong. Not sure if I must retake.

Kindly share your views and opinions regarding the colleges I must target with this score and profile. I'm also looking at Fisher, Tepper, Kelley and UIUC.

Thanks for sharing your profile. You have an interesting background that align well with your career goals that will interest your target programs. However your GMAT will be somewhat of a red flag to these programs because you are a bit below the average scores. But I think you can make a good case for an MBA from these programs even with your lower scores but your package will need to be that much stronger.

Hi there,

You have a decent profile. Your work experience and academics are good. The only factor lacking in your profile is your low GMAT Score. The list of B-Schools you have chosen are really good. Since your aim is to start your own company after completing your MBA, I would like to recommend few more B-Schools that are good for entrepreneurship like - NUS, NTU, INSEAD and S P Jain etc.

Currently you have approx 2 years of work experience and by the time you will join class you will have approx 3 years of work experience. You are still young and have few more years to build up your profile. I know retaking GMAT doesn't sound good after putting a lot of efforts but if you are targeting the B-Schools you have mentioned you need an improved GMAT score. Having a good GMAT Score will certainly improve your chances of getting admit into top global business school.

And since you have already done masters, it makes sense to target top ranked B-Schools only.

Hi Brat,

Would agree with the posts above that a GMAT retake is the need of the hour. There are just too many Indians that apply to the b-schools on your list. A 700+ score will augment your chances of an admit (along with a strong application). 
Go ahead and re-prepare. Apply in R2 if you are unable to plan the GMAT to hit R1 deadlines- no harm there!
