Hi,

I am interested in pursuing MBA from Canada (intake Fall 2021/Jan 2022). Request your evaluation of my profile for below target schools.

Target Schools - Rotman (Fall 2021 intake), Queens (Jan 2022 intake), McGill (Fall 2021 intake - opting for the one year program), HEC Montreal (Fall 2021 intake)

Education - BTech Mech - NIT (CGPA 8.19/10) - 2010
PGDM - IIM (CGPA 8.1/10) -2012
Certifications - PMP, IASSC Six Sigma black belt

GMAT - 690/800

Age - 32 years

Work Experience - 9 years. Business development, general management, corporate strategy across 3 Indian companies. Regular promotions, good appraisals. Team handling experience. Experience working with top management driving projects

Extra curriculars - good extra curriculars during under grad and grad. Later, a couple of community involvement/volunteer activities.

Letters of Recommendations - Good LORs from Director, Manager at previous company.

Essays - Good.

Canada PR holder.

Post MBA goals - Strategy consulting/entrepreneurship

I'm mostly concerned with the age and the fact that this can be considered as a second MBA. Motivation to pursue second MBA is for global experience and the fact that my first MBA was done without any work experience straight from engineering.

Request your profile evaluation. Thank you in advance.

Hi kvrkarthik

Thanks for posting. You have an interesting profile there.
- For Rotman, McGill, and HEC, you can only apply for the 2022 intake now (i.e. the class that begins in 2022). Perhaps you should also consider Ivey as an option. That is a top ranked school in Canada too. Ivey and Queen's are currently accepting applications.
- You will need to keep in mind that a lateral move to strategy consulting post 9 years of (non consulting) experience will not be easy. Please provide more details of your experience - industry / responsibilities / achievements.
- Age by itself is not a factor, but your prior experience (relevant/magnitude) is. Most Canadian schools are fine with second MBA applicants, but the reasoning for the second MBA may need refinement, as none of the factors for a first MBA were coercive when you pursued your first MBA, and you have gained business experience on the back of that MBA over the years.
