Hello!
I am a 28 (29 at matriculation) female with a rather unusual background and I'm having a hard time understanding how best to target schools when I don't seem to look like any of their normal profiles.
1) Work Experience: After graduation, I worked for 1.5 years in IT consulting with top tier firm. I left the firm to return home to assist the family's insurance business with an expansion and IT overhaul. I stayed and built a new sales division from scratch to 30% of the total business and $1.5 million. Finally, I determined that the family business was not my path and I spent the last 6 months working as staff on an important political campaign.
2) GMAT: 740 overall. 44 Verbal. 48 Quant. 5 AWA. 8 IR. Should I consider retaking to improve my quant score? I actually love math, but it has been quite some time since I had to use that particular level of math in my everyday work.
3) College: Babson College, 3.55, Business Management with Information Tech Management Concentration, Magna Cum Laude, 2007.
4) Community Service: Launched an annual theatrical production with proceeds going to women's charities in college, lead community group at consulting firm.
5) Target Schools: HBS - already dinged without interview, Haas, McCombs, Columbia, Stern, Tuck, Sloan, Stanford, Booth. Other thoughts? All stretches for me? Any suggestions on safety schools or on-par schools? I do not have external funding and getting a good scholarship/fellowship/grant is very critical. I've also noticed many schools launching brand new MS in Analytics or MS in Business Analytics degrees. Do you think they might be a viable alternative?
6) Post-MBA Career Goals: Project manager in analytics/business intelligence or working in an IT startup.
Thank you so much for your time and advice. I sincerely appreciate it.
