If you want to improve your chances at USC or UCLA (or any top school), I would boost that GMAT. With a 690/2.99, it's going to be an uphill battle even if you have stellar essays. With your GPA, ideally get above 720 if you can. Also, you may want to take 1-2 extension classes (a lot of universities offer courses online now) in calculus, stats, algebra, etc. (basically a freshman level college course in something quant is fine) - and ace them.

Other than that, it's just doing the best you can on the applications.

If you're not in a rush, you can always continue to build up 1-2 years more experience before applying - keep in mind that the sweet spot of years experience at these schools is around 3-5 years.

As for Stanford, you're up against folks who went to Ivy or equivalent undergrads, and worked at top tier IB or consulting firms (or highly sought after employers in tech like Google, Facebook, Apple, etc.).

p.s. if Luongo doesn't shut the door tomorrow, he may very well be working alongside his brother back in Montreal making sandwiches.... :) Canucks fans are the first to praise him as the Second Coming when he does well, but are also the first to throw him under the bus if he lets in a bad goal or three ...

Thanks again Alex! One last question: I've already written two GMATs...let's say I write a third and I get a 720...would writing three GMAT exams in that case hurt? Is there such a thing as writing too many GMAT exams? And let's say I write the GMAT again and I get WORSE, is a 690 good enough any way??

And yeah what a ridiculous performance last night!! Trust me, we in Montreal are the say with with Carey Price or whatever goalie is in nets that night.

There isn't some hard and fast rule for how many times is too much -- although most people will feel that taking it the 4th time and beyond is probably not worth it.

And if you get a worse score, no big deal. When they say they will consider your highest score, they really do mean it, even if it was a previous attempt.

p.s. I am a Habs fan actually (but will cheer for the Canucks). At least Carey Price is Anglophone. I mean, if he was French Canadian, God help him if he isn't the next Richard, Beliveau, Lafleur, Roy.

Thank you very much! If that ever is the case, let's just hope that the 690 is "good enough"!

BTW I took a Calculus 1 class while in Junior College back in 2005...I absolutely aced the course, got the best mark in the class. Furthermore, I took a Linear Algebra course and a few Statistics courses in University as well. I guess I should include the grades I got in these courses on the application, eh?
