Hi - I was wondering if you could please evaluate my profile for potential application to US MBA schools.
I am a Thai Chinese and I spent 9 years in the US, for undergrad and working thereafter. I graduated with a GPA of 3.9 in 2002 from a top liberal arts college. Was awarded a Global Scholar Award (full scholarship for graduating valedictorian in school), Double majored in Economics and Accounting/Finance. GMAT was a disappointment 620 (Q46,V31), but planning to retake soon. Aiming for January applications to be admitted Fall 2010. Completing CFA this coming June.
My work experiences are as follows:
1) 2 years as a regulator (compliance)-promoted within a year - managing a team of 3-4
2) 3+years in a top i-bank in NY (compliance)- Analyst and Associate - managing a team of 3-4
3) 1 year in Equity Research Analyst Sell Side -foreign bank in Thai - ranked in Asia
4) 1+ current, Equity Research Analyst/Trader - local bank in Thai - managing a team of 5
Other involvements:
Some public service involvements, but limited time since I have to take care of sick family member.
Speak 5 languages
Leadership roles in college varsity teams and clubs
I have three concerns
1) When I matriculate, I would be 30. Is that going to be an issue for Chicago, Stanford, HBS, Emory, Dartmouth or Duke?
2) My movement in various job functions could be deemed a rolling stone. Jobs #1&2 are more support/back office roles but #3 and 4 are front office. I have tried very hard to change roles professionally (to front office). Managed to do just that after I returned to Asia. Jobs 1 and 2 are in NY but I had to leave US due to family reasons. Was going to do MBA after my second job, but family illness scuppered plans. Had to return home.
3) Understand that GMAT is quite low and need to get to 700+...but considering all my the factors I mentioned above, do I stand a chance to get into the schools?
I definitely want to pursue an MBA. Could you please advise? I would also appreciate if you have suggestion for other schools.
Thank you so much.
