Hi, please evaluate my profile. I would like to attend a top 10 full time program. How much will depend on gmat score? Do I have a chance with low gmats? What kind of score would I definitely need?
Education: Certified Public Accountant, GPA: 3.55 - Accounting Major - St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia, PA
Work Experience: 7.5 years (4.5 as external auditor at Public Accounting - Big Four, 3 years in Corporate Accounting at Fortune 100 company)
Age: 30
GMAT: Scheduled to take 6/28/10 - aiming for high 600's, although I am not a strong test taker. Practice tests are still around 500 right now.
Future Plan: Seeking MBA to switch from accounting to finance/financial services industry
Hi Dgc,
Statistics at top 10 MBA programs show average GMAT scores in high 600s or low 700s. Considering that, a practice test score of 500 is of concern. Older applicants, who are perceived as having greater experience and hence more opportunities to improve their quantitative and communications skills may have fewer options to justify a lower test score. In your case, working in a profession that requires heavy numbers and writing skills, and wanting to move after MBA to a profession that requires similar skills, could make this a significant weakness in your profile.
Have you had an opportunity to assess what is bringing your score down - a particular section, sub-section, not enough time to prepare or not being used to the length of the exam? Depending on how you assess the root cause, we could guide you better on resolving the issue and achieving a higher test score more in keeping with top 10 program expectations.
