Hello everyone,
I am applying for fall of 2011 entry into business school. My statistics are below:
Age: 40
Demographic: Korean
Undergrad: Bachelor of Engineering in Textile Engineering among top 10 engineering schools in South Korea
Overall GPA: 3.1
GMAT: 730 (Math: 49, Verbal: 40, AWA: 4.5)
iBT TOEFL: 106
Work experience: 14 years (in February 2010)
International experience
Australia: 4 months
USA: 9 months
Work Experience Details: 13 years at renowned fashion company that is one of the family companies of No.1 company in Korea. My company is kind of a Korean brands retailer. I worked as a merchandiser in Men’s casual wears team and Accessories (women’s and men’s bags) team, 3 years each. Currently, I am working for vice president to optimize overall operational productivity by establishing effective working process and to clarify role and responsibility, in part by successfully instating strategic plans. Thus, I have quite a lot of hands-on experience in fashion industry.
Post-MBA I'd like to head into the world of retail industry in US. In the long term, I would like to be a CEO, a leader that possesses both the practical applications and long term vision by successfully balancing real world business experience and theoretical concepts. I think that MBA will not only help me form the networks I need, but also to cultivate management skills that will be crucial to evaluating such ventures in a quantitative sense.
Schools in mind are the top 10 pretty much... although I prefer NYU and Columbia as I love the city.
I'm not sure if this will be considered at all, but my low GPA during college was primarily due to the fact that I had more interest in social reform which was quite an issue in Korea in late 1980s than my study. However, after finishing military service, I took GPA very seriously. So, the GPAs of junior and senior years had been improved a lot compared with those of freshman and sophomore.
Thanks for your time!
