Hello Alex,

I'm looking to apply in 2010 in order to start in Fall 2011.

Please could you evaluate my profile? I honestly would like to know your opinion wheter it's possible for me to get into one of the programs of my choice or not. Maybe it's a long shot.

Target: As I have a long work experience related to Manufacturing field and also I have a big passion about that, my strong desire is to get into a Dual Degree Program like MBA/MS, where the main choice would be LFM program at MIT/Sloan or MMM program at Kellog.

My Profile:

Age: 27

Nationality: Brazilian

GMAT: I did not get the GMAT yet, but I took several Kaplan tests and I'm scoring around 630. looked in the Score Simulator Tool and it stated that I would be able to get a 710 in the real GMAT test ( I hope!! ), but despite of that I'm studying hard in order to get a 750 in GMAT to compensate my very low GPA grade.

Graduation: I got a BS in Automotive Mechanical Engineering. Although the grades system in Brazil is not similar to GPA, I did some roughly correlations and belive to have 2.8 GPA grade, which I think is very low.
I don't know if it helps, but since I was 14 I had to work full time ( 40 hours per week) in other to pay my studies and help my parents. I believe that this fact contributed in some way to have low grades.

Work Experience: I have 12 years work experience in Automotive Industry in Brazil and also 1 year experience in Automotive Industry in UK. During this period I have worked in several departments and increased my responsibilities along the time. Below is a small time frame showing that:

Volkswagen Auto maker
1996 – 1999 > Apprentice
1999-2000 > Quality auxiliary
2000-2002 >Drawings Controller Got a promotion by the time I finish Mechanic Technical course in high school
2003-2005 >Product Analyst Got a promotion by the time that I started the BS in Mechanical Engineering
2005-2006 >Buyer

Ford Automaker
2007-2008 >Manufacturing Engineer After finish my BS course I started to work as Engineer.
2008-2009 >Internship at Ford Technical Centre in England.
2009- current >Lead Manufacturing Engineer for Cylinder Head component in Brazil.

Extracurricular activities: Since I was 15 I have been involved with social work in my faith community, and also took some leadership positions during this period.

Many Thanks for your help!

Rodrigo

For the LFM or MMM (or any top MBA program actually), it comes down to two things: your GMAT and how well you execute your applications.

So those are the two things to focus on. You're worrying too much about your GPA - for internationals who didn't do their undergrad in the US, the adcom is going to focus more on your GMAT anyhow (they can't really benchmark a Brazilian grading system vs. a Russian one vs. the US GPA system and so forth).

Shoot for a 700 or better, and you should be competitive for the LFM or MMM -- assuming you do a good job on the applications.
