After 4 years in the real estate industry I decided to switch careers into SCM\Ops\Logistics via an MBA or MSc.
My current qualifications include a 3.05 GPA from a top-20 private US university with a BA in biology and marketing back in 2005, a 690 GMAT, and currently at my extended family's company in a self-directed SCM internship in Taiwan. I just began the internship in March, and I plan to stay about a year to gain some relevant experience and perfect my Chinese language skills. My current EC are nonexistent.
The long term\life goal is to successfully take over my father’s import\distribution\retail business in about 5-10 years. Short term is to land a relevant position right out of school to learn skills to bring back to the family.
With my background I plan to target 2nd-tier schools with some top-tier ones as my reach, both in the USA and abroad. Are there some gaps in my profile I should address in the next year?
My biggest struggle right now is whether I should to pursue a MSc in Supply Chain Management or an MBA with focused electives?
Thanks a million!
One glaring gap is a lack of
extra-curriculars or non-professional activities in the above. You may have them, but they aren't in your post. The other factor that struck me in your post is the rather dramatic shifts in interest from biology to marketing to R/E to SCM/Ops for an import export business in Taiwan. If I were reviewing your application, I would want to understand these shifts. I wouldn't question your sincerity because it is not unusual for young adults to go through a period of experimentation before settling on a career, but I would be curious.
You intention to target 2nd tier schools makes sense.
Best,
