Hey Alex, I've enjoyed reading your evaluations of other potential candidates and trying to apply some of what you said to my current situation.
If you have a second, could you take a look at my profile?
25 year old white male, 26 at matriculation.
Just took the GMAT a few days ago, 760 (49Q 45V)
3.4 GPA from top 20, double majored in Business and Information Systems.
Studied abroad at Cambridge University
Extracurriculars include:
Varsity soccer freshman year at CMU
Club soccer sophomore through senior year
Rugby team sophomore through senior year, was a captain senior year.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, have been paired with my little brother for about a year and a half now.
Volunteer for Onebrick and Habitat for Humanity
Currently 3 years of work experience, 4 at matriculation.
- 2 years at a well established IT consulting company ~30k employees
- 1 year at big blue chip IT consulting company
My top two schools are Dartmouth and MIT, and I plan to apply to Northwestern and UVA as well.
I'm looking to end up at MBB or similar after graduation.

I think the schools you listed are in range.
Schools like Tuck, Sloan, Kellogg, Booth and Columbia are schools to focus on. Darden, Duke, Michigan and so forth are not quite safeties (no real safeties in the top 16), but you have a pretty reasonable shot of getting in so long as you don't royally screw up your applications and don't run into bad luck. Maybe even throw your hat in the ring for one of H/S/W if you have the time and energy.
Biggest thing for you is being able to stand out. There's enough applicants whose profile/resume is comparable in caliber to yours, so it really comes down to using the essays, rec letters and interviews to reveal the "man behind the resume" - to show that you're more than just a collection of credentials and employer names, but a real person (a simple concept that isn't easy to execute, because the format of describing yourself in these essay formats isn't something most people normally do in real life).

One thing I've been wondering - how will the 1 year of varsity soccer look to the adcoms? Will it be a plus because it demonstrates the hard work and dedication I put in elementary school through high school? Or will they just think I'm a quitter?
