All,
Thanks in advance for any advice.
My story is non-traditional. Background - attended large public university for undergrad - gpa roughly 3.3. Law school - full ride to a tier 2 school; gpa 3.38 (within top quarter of graduating class); managing editor of school's flagship law review. I've practiced law in boutique private practice for a year and a half (corporate litigation, primarily). Considering leaving the law to join the finance team at a large, well-known F500 company (think company in the top 150). I've realized law isn't for me for a variety of reasons, although I do enjoy certain aspects of the role and think the experience has added a lot to who I am. Confident I could spin my decision into a positive in essay and interviews.
But ultimately, given my background, I'm thinking I may need to add an MBA in a few years if I'm going to take this step and fully re-brand myself. My question is essentially - how would an admissions committee view this application and my background?
Of course, the GMAT score is a significant part of the equation here and I haven't taken the test yet. If I can manage something in the 700 range and move up quickly in the corp role, how competitive would I be for T6 evening programs within 2-3 years? Thinking Booth and Kellogg in particular because I'll be in Chicago.
I know there are a lot of moving parts here, but any sort of insight would be great.
Thanks!
