Hi I am a 22 year old male from Nepal. Applying to HBS, GSB, Wharton, MIT Sloan, Babson. Due to the earthquake and unstable political situation in the country my application has been delayed until R3 of each of these universities.
Work Experience:
- Founder of a fast growing sustainability and social entrepreneurship focused fashion startup in Netherlands (1 year): My roles in the company are similar to that of a CEO
- Founding team of the first startup accelerator in Nepal (1 year): My responsibilities include creating the curriculum taught in the accelerator and implementing it throughout the program
- Pro-bono experience as project manger at the top student-run consulting firm in Netherlands (2 years): We were trained by firms like McKinsey, AtKearney and BCG. In my term as a project manager I led 3 projects ranging from Fortune 500 companies to startups
GMAT:(expected score)
760 Quant: 47 (76%), Verbal: 48 (99%)
Undergrad:
University College Roosevelt, ranked top university college in Netherlands
GPA: 3.6/4.0, Major: Economics and Psychology, Minor: Statistics
Scholarship holder for all 3 years in the university
Extracurriculars:
Chair of Financial and Business Club in university
Instructor/Founder of mindfulness meditation centre for the community
Paper selected for the first Social Entrepreneurship Conference in Nepal (ongoing)
Assigned by the Dean to create a capstone course on entrepreneurship for university
Wrote a research paper on sustainable business models for the regional government in Netherlands
Post-MBA Goals:
Expand the market of the fashion startup to major european countries
Go back to Nepal and expand the operations of the startup accelerator
Questions:
- What are my chances in getting into one of my chosen universities?
- Should I be applying for R3?
- What more can I do to stand out?

Thanks for sharing your profile. You really have a tremendous profile, very unique and one that will stand out even amongst the best. Now your issues are two fold. You are really, really young. Your accomplishments certainly read as someone far older than your age but schools will scrutinize this. Now I'm not necessarily dissuading you because of your age but if your going to apply as a younger candidate I would not suggest R3. It will just make admissions to already tough schools tougher. I would recommend R1 to give your application the best chance of success

Thank you for your evaluation. I am glad that I stand a chance at these universities. I never thought being young would be a problem. Why is age a concern to these universities? Is it because they think I might not be mature enough for their programs? Is there a way for me to overcome this hurdle? (other than growing older)
